Well here we go again with another nitro to B/less conversion.

Got home from work and went out the front door with the chocky-frogs and there is a lovely white package waiting for me. In it is one Monster RC CRT.5 conversion kit with extended chassis, motor mount, Pinions, braces, drive shaft and servo mounts(plus a couple of bits of bling for the X2-CRT).

The issues I still face are what ESC and Motor combo to go for. I have the Mamba Max combo in mind and have planned accordingly with the purchase of a few extra pinions and a sleeve/converter to get the mod-1 pinions to fit onto the 3.2mm shaft.
The other option I have is, I get another MMM v3 setup as a spare for the truggy but this is stupid overkill and would probably render it a freak for speed runs and scaring the public at next years Autumn River. What I want to be able to do is race it on Friday nights against the trucks or 4WD's(preferably) when there are not enough MT's for a class(as long as there isn't too much crying foul, etc)...so it would have to be drivable, very drivable.

Anyone got any other ideas?

LRP are bringing out an 8th scale speedy with motors to match .. maybe check out those .. as for racing against the T4's .. I wouldn't want to race in the same class .. too much potential for damage.

Its a 1/10 sized 4x4 nitro truck thing as far as im aware, its not a big 1/8th truck...

I think you can run in novice , thats a open class for weird and wonderful chassis :D

There will be skeptics, weight being the deciding factor to what class you can tag along with i guess.

err...you are missing the point a bit guys. The class I will run with will more depend on the guys on the night...points are not the object(nor is spoiling someone elses points) I just want to have a 1/12th(actually more like 1/10th after the conversion) that I can run on Friday nights that is not so big that it scares the wittle-twucks. :p

The point/question that I really need some other thoughts/opinions on are motor/esc options.
The LRP suggestion is on the right track...but LRP is not my preferred brand. Tekin have a 1/8th outfit but as I say I think it is overkill and would make the machine un-raceable...not the desired result in the long run.

Ahahahaha .. wittle - trucks <<< that's a good one!

How about just a Mamba Max .. or even a Sidewinder with a 5600kv?

Yeah...the max, as I said, is the way I am looking at going but it is always nice to hear what others think will work.

Have you looked at the 1/10 R1 tekin stuff couple of guys drifting them low turn ones say the motors have heaps of torque even with the 4.5 equiv's , i havn't seen any off them with temp issues either.

Mamba Max Speedy 2/3s Lipo, Medusa 36-50-3300kv motor 5mm shaft, Mod 1 pinion.

on 2s it's driveable around the track on 3s it should be good for speed runs.

Nice proven combination.

Just my $0.02

jeez, what wif the 1/16 e-revo it could be a new class.

Thanks Keri...only thing that worries me a bit is the extra weight the CRT.5 carries in comparison to standard 1/10th gear...tho I know Tekin is THE BEST I wonder if the extra weight would put it closer to the edge. I know that the Mamba Max is VERY tough which is why it is the front runner in my thoughts...also I can just add an external BEC and run it on my X2-CRT if I need to so that also works in it's favour, spares are good just ask KB. :p

Cheers Nexus...would probably prefer an NEU to a Medusa, just being picky really, but the Max on 2s is sort of what I was looking at I would be buying the Motor & ESC combo(the lower kva-rated one) tho and seeing what the power is like...just seems like a more economical way to start out.

Obz I would love to see any 4WD truck class...you know I don't do that buggy shit!! lol :p

The CRT in the standard form says its 1800.. and standard B44's are 1750 so i dont think the weights going to be a issue, your just running truck wheel sizes which just means different gearing.

errr...actually it runs 4WD Buggy rims in standard form but can be run on Traxxas rims/tyres to get proper-scale effect.

I guess i assumed you were getting truck rims as thats what i read somewhere while looking around at the conversion.

Any pic's so far ?

Yeah...I got a couple but it is ready for testing on Friday night. ;)

I have used my GTX, Br00d 10x2 and Trakpower battery to get things started...gotta have a look at how she goes. :))

...and, the standard weight is a bit different to the converted reality-weight.

But I'll see what happens, I'm pretty sure there will be some fun-police activity directed my way in the very near future.

Hrmm .. this is interesting man .. care to reveal a rough estimate of the cost involved if one was to partake in such a conversion?

Mazimbwe

It depends what you pay for the kit and then $128(US) for the conversion plus electrics.
I have seen the Kit for under $200(US) and Mamba Max Combo $285(US), only about $350 locally I think, throw in a good servo($80-180[locally]) and you are going...then you sell off all the Nitro bits.

So $500 - 1000 depending on what you want to fit into it and what you pay for the bits.

Cheers for that info .. alot cheaper than the 1:8th conversions

Mazimbwe

No probs.

Yeah, it is a lot cheaper but you would be even more of a freak than the 1/8's who struggle enough just to be able to run at West Coast.

Gimme a couple of weeks and I will tell you if it as much fun Brushless as it was Nitro...or as much fun as the 1/8. ;)

She is running and waiting to be tested at Bunbury, if the guys don't mind me running it in the lunch break, so you can have a look at it if your going there.
Looks great with 30series wheels and tyres.
Chopped up an old T4 body to give it a skirt as the old shell no longer fits(must remember to talk to Mr Floozy about that :p ) and it is all ready to go.

BTW...a big shout out to Richard and Lee at perth RC. They are the reason I have the car ready to roll rather than waiting for stuff to finish it.

Thanks heaps.
