What is the ESC to get? Which one would you guys get and why? Need your help on the selection process. Will be wanting to get a new motor to match too.

generally I'd say it comes down to budget, and also very importantly, what sort of motor you plan to use with it.

Some mod to low range ESC's will only support motor's to a certain turn, Eg, 16turn or up... Some ESC's have no limit, etc..

For getting into off-road, I'd start with a stock'ish motor, any ESC should power one. Then I'd goto mod with a 13double or something. So just consider your future plans before splurging.

I've got a Novak tempest esc in my truck, which i love, it's like 10 yrs old! Novak are generally good. LRP are good, GM, tekin, etc...

everyone will have a preferance i spose. People dont usually have good things to say about things they dont own or havent seen/used.

I'd rock up to the next race meet, and have a look at what people are running, ask them etc... there's so many options :)

After running RC Cars for a few years now i can only recommend 1 brand NOVAK.Cyclone,C2,GT7 + GTX all for brushed motors,If its for a brushless !evil there can only be 1 SHULTZ

All my LRP Quantums have served me well. I've had a Novak 410-M5 (I think) from back in the early 90's that still worked perfectly (sold it with my B3 *sniff*).

The only ESC I ever had a problem with was a Novak Fusion from RMS. Out of the box it was glitchy as hell. Went through a huge 2 year process to get a replacement one plus the $50 deposit I put on the replacement while they checked that it was indeed faulty. New one ended up being used a couple times, couldn't get the brakes set right, so sold it.

So, apart from that, I don't think you can go wrong really. I mean, we're not professional racers or anything, so as long as it can handle the motor and # cells you want to use, just get which ever one you like.

Thanks peoples. I'm looking at the GM V8. Seems to be able to do everything and will accomodate upgrades that i may want to do. Any bad things heard about GM? They seem like a quality product.

I'll be trying a GM for the first time soon. I'm ordering an SX3R for my micros.

I know it's nothing major, but one thing I do like about GM is that you can buy replacement cases. Not sure who else does this, but I've only seen GM ones so far.

Just wondering, why don't you get the V12 Hirosaka edition? It doesn't cost that much more and it has a fake signature and a biger number written on it :P I'm a bit silly with things like that....
