Hey guys. Chatter has started over on WRCD about having a scale rally, wondering what the interest over here is?

Electric only at this stage I'm thinking, and only to use 1:10 scale bodies resembling real cars actually used for motorsport (no grip or buggy bodies. real cars).

So yeah, interest?

it's much more prominent on this planet than concrete and hot mix.

it's racing, don't get it wrong, but sliding on dirt is just what happens. that includes rwd, fwd and 4wd. virtually unlimited so long as it runs a normal body with wheels somewhat inside the guards.

allowed would also be the CORR trucks i reckon. but a different class.

Technically, because none of the "rally" type onroad chassis will run on any of the WA offroad tracks. Rally chassis will only work on a flat surface. Come the first jump, the front of the body/bumper digs in. And they dont have anywhere near the amount of shock travel they'd need.

Non-technically, it didnt have a lasting interest. Same as the mini class for onroad.

ahhh.

my idea is of a completely different concept sir. see, scaled up, nearly all of the offroad tracks we have currently have jumps the size of ken blocks record feat, and naturally not practical.

shock travel only needs to allow for a drop from about half a metre at the max.

the idea is stadium style rally. two cars leave the gates, do the same track, but different sections. but no permanent tracks. pegged-down walls and portable bridges/jumps, and some good-ol' fashion digging will make for awesome tracks, and something new and different every time. slashs and sc10s and whatnot, 1:10 rally, 1:10 raid cars like the pajero and touareg and all those, pretty much anything 1:10 onroad that can be converted for offroad.

Might seem like it'll get boring fast, but a lot of fun can be had with this setup i think. and some wacky shit can be introduced. full loops and barrel-rolls and whatnot if the want was there...

I suppose you could still have 10 cars run, just stagger the starts by 15-30 seconds, and Alycat could still time them.

having a bit of a rally bash next sunday the 30th just to see what everyone feels like, and to experiment with tracks and shit.

corner of kalamunda road and great eastern highway bypass. bring whatever you want. no doubt it'll turn into an offroad bash-sprint type thing.

if nothing at all it'll be a nice big social offroad gathering.

to get yas motivated:

Does noone recall when I ran offroad novice at Ryper with a TT-01?

:D

Even tried the DF03RA which is a specific rally chassis, but motor position meant no airflow and even a silver can burnt up on the most conservative gearing.

I've been running silver can with lipo in a TL for a while now in the dirt. no offense but ryper sucks arse for touring cars.

this will not be an offroad-novice type thing. this'll be bash day for everyone else, and rally experiment with a fresh outlook on track design for the 1:10 rally vehicles. at this stage, short course trucks will be allowed to run their own class.

the mass of information is over on WRCD. takes nothing to register guys.

Yo.

Waiting for WRCD to be back (can't seem to log in) but, i'm now just wondering.

I've set up a little rally track out here in Northam very similar to the gloucester park stages we had here a when Telstra Rally Australia was still perth-event. (gone are those days..

This track is a bit of a test. but, as it stands, it's a twin-lane track with a bridge/tunnel crossover. the track lanes are only 3ft wide, which makes for some intense racing. takes some getting used to, but, it is absolutely perfect and testament to how challenging full scale offroad rally can and has always been.

pics if there's interest in seeing it. else, cbf and would rather be spending time on it.

my rally car is running a 540 can, which i haven't lubed or cleaned for two weeks now. still going strong with caked dirt spattered inside. essentially rally is turning a basic tourer chassis into a basher. TL-01 is perfect for this, get a hold of one. somehow.

And that's my update.

Piss poor, yes. But I would like to know if there is still interest in this. if there is, by god i'll build a big ****-off selection of tracks for these things for you people to enjoy closer to home - previously discussed kalamunda road spot.
