Electric side of the setup depends on budget..
Brushed, No limit ESC and 15x1 motor is ideal.
Brushless.. a setup with a 7.5-9t motor is where most people go. if you want the best forward control a fwd only race spec esc is what id recommend a esc with rev is never going to be as smooth and they all ways feel like they have lag.
tires: The go is t-drifts, avoid cheap no name brand ebay tires.
Body: eh... as long as it JDM, HPI bodys are the strongest going and really cheap locally, stanbridges has the best range around town of drift bodies on the shelf as most of the guys that work there in the rc section are drifters aswell..

go a good brushless set up mate. the power definatly helps, with brushed motors its to open and alot of dirt gets stuck in there. my mate and i were drifting so much his motor seized up. needed to oush it to start it going again.
save yourself hassle and go brushless. 7-10t is fine. i use 6.5 cos i like that bit extra on bigger tracks. make sure you use decent batteries as well. doesnt have to be a forward only. doesnt make a difference to me as long as you can set up brakes.
depending on touring car as well, you may want to lock the rear diff.
we use american abs/sushi abs which is pretty good but you have to get it sent over from US. con get off ebay but the t drifts work fine.
bodiy should be a panda AE86 :)
anyways if you have questions ask.
btw where abouts are you?

Open budget , heard that before without realizing the price of BL setups they budget quickly changes
Ultimate setup is a SXX lrp Bl ESC.. with a 6.5 to 8.5ish x11 motor...
Yokomo bodys are expensive buggers but they have the best detail around.

Really depends on the car and driver if you lock the front or not, but it is a real must in the rear tho.
Some people like a loose ball diff in the front, or a gear diff full of the sticky AW tamiya grease , or just lock it solid.. i like a ball diff in the front on the looser side, all my cars a locked rears.

you'll find that even el cheapo ezrun brushless systems work out fairly well for the drift cars.
