I have been talking to the owner of my LHS, Discount Hobby Supplies yesterday and have been telling him of the new short course class that is run at West Coast.
He wasn't aware that there was a short course class at all. He has had more and more enquirys about the cars of this class. He said if i could organize some flyers for him to give out about the SC racing class... Eg, Where it runs, What times, What vehicles are within the SC class and, a brief run down on Stock & SuperStock, rules he would hand them out.
Not only this but he would also promote West Coast on his website.I can only see this benefiting both West Coast and Discount Hobby Supplies. This could get more people involved with West Coast which can only be a good thing.

Let me know i would be keen to help in anyway i can...

I would say at the moment their is no need for promotion, currently their is hardy enough room for the people we have.. not a empty pit bay usually..

Have you been down to the track before?

Thanks for the offer to help promote our club. As Emlyn has said we are currently running at near absolute maximum capacity every friday night . So much so that if numbers increase any further we would be forced to turn people away. Pehaps a better thing to promote would be the fact that Kwinana RC club may be racing offroad sometime in the near future.Members of Kwinana are contactable through this site. I am sure they would be keen to hear from potential new members. In the mean time I believe they have also had a few CORR trucks running around their onroad coarse . If Kwinana were able to get a steady crew racing down there West Coast would be happy to get some freindly interclub racing and rivalry going between the two clubs.

Would there be a capacity issue for those who don't need pit space? From what I can work out, I can get 20+ mins on one of my lipos so I could happily bring down a couple of charged packs and free up a pit bay for someone else.

The capacity issue is not a space issue, its more a case of having nearly 70 (68 last Friday night) people racing on the night combined with the time it takes to run the night. More people usually means more classes and more time per round.

6 rounds with an average of 8 minutes per race means a minimum finishing time of 11pm at the earliest if everything runs smoothly.

Most nights those that do the lockup at the end of the night go through and clean up the mess left behind in the pits bays, put away the lights the people accidentally leave out, put the bins out and get out of there at midnight, sometimes later.

if it gets any bigger classes will need to be run fortnightly.

i'm not sure west coast needs that much more promotion, maybe waorma needs to organise some kind of leaflet that promotes the sport in general and all the clubs involved to spread any newcomers around.

pretty sure one of the missions of waorma is to promote the sport or at least update its own website http://sportstwo.com/forums/images/smilies/debate/smiley-stirthepot.gif

How about something on a Saturday morning as well? .. surely there are members who can run things on a Saturday? .. then people who want to go Friday can go Friday and the others can go Saturday .. If the want for racing is there that is

True, and i'm there are people who would like to race at carine which would probably help 'spread the load'. But carine would need to hold regular race meets.

The fact its on a friday night i think is one of the biggest draw cards. Its a good way to wind up the week, and still have the weekend free.

So for ppl like Ozslash and myself who intend to race in the next month or so... is there a chance the club may have to erect a "sorry we're full" sign up at the gate?

Would that change if we prepaid membership?

It is true we are very busy and sometimes on the busiest nights we set up fold up tables for people to pit from but we have not turned away any one yet. On a couple of occasions we have had to drop a round of racing to accomodate every body.If this were to become a regular occurance we may have to look at limiting numbers. In that case West Coast members would of coarse be given first preference to race and visiting racer numbers would be restricted.
This is traditionally a very busy time of year for us , things normally settle down to a more managable number after the christmas break.

so... (im not sure this is already such the case) when there are more west coast members than available pit bays... who determines which member gets first preference?

The flood of drivers is a healthy sign of things to come, and everyone will eventually become a financial member for the sake of securing a pit bay, but who gets to be on top of the picking order? and what contingency setup for the remaining paid members without a pit area?

Time to build more pit bays?

As I said, I don't mind going without a pit bay and charging my packs before showing up, as I'd be a new member, it's only fair that I give way in some aspects to those members who have been around longer.

I can only see crowds getting bigger at West Coast!

Just look at what has happened in America.
Even through the "economic slow down" the Corr class has brought people back to the hobby. It has made, the hobby more assessable to the novice starting out. And it's a solid racing platform, with scale looks to boot...
The Corr class has gone off for nearly 2yr's in America and shows no signs of slowing down. And with the no hassles performance of B/L and battery technology it's even bringing people over from Nitro. I can see Australia following suit as word slowly gets around...There is very little in the way of R/C advertising in Australia and it's still going strong and consistently getting bigger.
