cant delete it as its too important , its got a program on there i just need to retrieve and thats it .

Even if its possible to be grabbed out of there and put on the main hdd with new operating system thats fine but its gonna be a matter of seeing it

but if you restore the partition, can't you get access back to whatever you need? In which case, don't use the pc and accidently overwrite it.

tried that justo but my main pc dont recognise the hdd without a partition on it so its invisible

ahh ok. Dunno if this makes a difference, but that active partition recovery works from a boot floppy?

there r data recovery ppl out there who can do it for u. but they will really test the value of that data coz its HUGELY expensive.

OK RB, if you have only deleted the partition then there are about 3-4 programs out there which can retrieve the data for you.

However if you have deleted the partition then recreated it i dont know what will happen but i assume you should be able to get most of the data back. If you have also written data on to the new partition then potentially you may have written over information space which was being used and thus have lost the data.

I have seen a program called active undelete in action but never used it to restore a deleted partition. www.active-undelete.com

Good Luck.....

http://www.active-undelete.com/price.htm $US 39.95 there is also a demo version so you may be able to test it out to see if it works.

If you do use it will be easiest for you to install the software on the running PC and install the problem HDD into that system as a second HDD.

www.getdataback.com

Download the version for FAT, seeing as its a Win 98 partition, and it works a treat...although you DO have to pay for it.

I recovered a lost partition with this program, so I know it works ;)

relying on community assistance can be a good thing as long as no one steers you up shit creek... and then pilfers your paddles.
