Hi guys newby to this site just chasing up a bit of info, Im about to purchase a short course truck mainly to bash but im keen to give the racing a go as well.
Ive been looking at either a Slash or Blitz i think they would be the strongest and easiest to get parts for.
Any fors or against with these trucks Tips etc, were would be the best place to race one? also do they race stock or modded trucks?

if you want somthing that handles well and and can bash with the slash buy a blitz

cant comment first hand on the blitz as i haven't had one, but if your going to bash it don't bother with the sc10 or strike, both are race trucks first, the slash is a basher that ppl decided to race and it just took off like wildfire.
the blitz is basically a firestorm, which is beefed up copy of a t4, still set up for racing but i'm sure it could handle some mild bashing.
kinda depends which way your leaning, and how hard your going to bash.
if your going to be brutal bashing and race for fun, then go the slash. if you think racing may catch on but you want to hack around the park then go the blitz.

very few trucks are now 'stock' pretty much all the fast guys now run aftermarket tires, speedys and motors. some have changed shocks and few have swapped arms and gearbox parts.

Get a slash they are the best all round truck for either race as you can get lots of upgrades and also are good for bashing (very strong)

Thanks Nick

Just a little heads up for your lipo's. If your planning on racing make sure your Lipo's are approved for racing in Australia. See the list below for the approved batteries.

West Coast Model Rally Club (http://www.westcoastmodelrallyclub.asn.au/Site/index.html) located at the corner of Moojebing Street & Cowlyn is currently the only 1/10 electric track in Perth running every week but the Model Off Road Buggy Club (http://www.morbc.org.au) out at Whiteman Park is permitting the EP guys to come out there and run on non-official race days. They are officially a Nitro club. There is also Carine that runs either once or twice a month on Sundays and hopefully we will see another track open up in Kwinana (http://kwinanarc.com/) in the not to distant future.

West Coast run on Friday nights and MORBC run every other sunday.

West Coast offers newbies the first night free and $10 there after or if you become a members it is $5 per night. MORBC I believe is also free for your first time also.

About the only other thing you will need if you want to charge batteries at the track is a Lipo Sack. The Lipo Sacks are just a fire proof bag to charge your lipo's in for safety.

More information about most of the clubs mentioned can be found here on T/A or on the links supplied.

If you need some racing tyres like bowties etc they are hard to find at the moment but
I just managed to get some delivered in 2 days from HarrisRC, very cheap too.
Also the Whiteman Park track is quite hardcore, probably best to try Bayswater first.

@SuperRoo

What is special about those lipo packs on that list? Have they all been hammer-tested or something..
Please tell me that doesn't apply to WCMRC club nights?

Only hard case LiPo's make the list and they all have a minimun C rating to ensure they are up to the job.Basically I think all approved packs had to be capable of pumping out a minimum of 80 amps continuous ie 4000mah x 20c = 80 amp 3200mah x 25c = 80 amps. Poor quality NiMh batteries that cant supply enough power will only get hot and make you car go slow. Poor quality LiPos that cant supply enough power will get hot and blow up.
For friday night racing we will accept any 2 cell packs that meet the above specs wether they be on the list or not.In regards to interclub racing I would say most other clubs that host events would have a similar opinion but at the state titles the approved battery list will defineately be enforced. Soft case LiPo's will be heavily frowned upon.

Ok Dazz sounds fine. I have a range of good hardcase packs but no $$ sticker on them but I don't care for trophy races anyway as long as I can
get some track time.

Mash I see you lurking, I have good tyres now so look out :D

If you want tires, Ryper hobbies has proline calibre's in atm... awesome grip..

Go snap some up..

Yeah, whiteman is a quite technical track, but so is bayswater...

I meant Whitemans is bigger/faster and full of nasty nitros. :)

Yep, just you and me so far. i really want to crack a sub 30 lap, fastest 2wd
last week was in the 31s so maybe its possible. I've played with the susp alot too so hopefully that helps (or i could have stuffed it completely).

I'll post up a setup sheet I have from one of the traxxas team drivers i'll be runnin that as close as I can on friday. I tried my centre diff :( it needs thinner oil, id say 40-50k and mine was only half full?!?! so I dropped my slipper back in, heaps more acceleration.
I recon a sub 30 lap is def possible, i cracked 32.somethin 2 weeks ago :D

I don't think Tim Roberts is going to come with anything much better as hes stuck using
the stock springs. I now have 3 sets of losi springs to use and have dropped the oil to around
30wt. Plus the WC track is rougher than a backyard BBQ in Girrawheen atm (sorry Pete).

I got a 30.4 sec lap on the practice run :D

You ran 1/18th??

I was packed and ready to go but got held up at the last minute.
Will you be driving next Fri?

24-01-2010, 08:18 AM
Yeah I had to run my D4 1/10 buggy we ran with the 1/18ths :) , 4WD CORR trucks can only run in Novice, and I cant race in Novice :D When you get over a certain amount of laps in Novice its not fair on the other guys. Theres a track opening up mid Feb in Belmont, on the lawn bowling club. We can run there, and there is also Whitemans, would be good to have a run there as its a 1/8 track.

I'll be at work for the next 3 weeks so no racing for me :(
