I have Windows 7, and am NOT a computer Guru, it''s easy enough to use, boots up fairly quick, doesn't run slowly at all (I haven't had the need to use firefox yet)

Nice layout, quite stable, XP needed a reboot every 2nd night, Win 7 doesn't

Only issue has been establishing printer access (full administrator access) for the Wife's XP Laptop when she prints to a HP Colour laser in the study.

Didn't need a driver for the D Link Wifi USB Dongle either, but can't run my Canon Digital Video Camera via USB (Came with Firewire, got USB - firewire cable, won't run it...) .. kinda sucks cos I got bulk loads of Video of Jacob and can't upload and email it to family etc.

Hope this is more helpful than a "Windows 7 rocks" comment :)

ohh i thought you were buying a new laptop with factory win7 installed .

MAKE SURE WINDOWS 7 HAS SPECIFIC DRIVERS FOR YOUR LAPTOP ( VIDEO AND AUDIO ESPECIALLY ) .... THE WIN7 GENERIC DRIVERS WONT DO ALLOT OF THINGS AND HICKUP YOUR SYSTEM .

Win 7 stalls on my HP Pavillion DV9821 because HP havnt written up specific drivers and the ones Win7 assumes stall the PC .

The other computer i built though which is all brand spanker latest works a charm with all the correct drivers .

yeah no woz big boy .

I know you say hes your mate but just confirm that the drivers he uses are SPECIFICALLY WRITTEN for your PC . Windows 7 does use universal drivers but though they look like they work , allot of your programs are driver specific .

Best way to see if your laptop is compatible is go the the manufacturers website ( HP , Compaq , Lenovo , EEEPC ... or what ever it is ) go to their support page , find the model of your laptop and then check to see in their download page if you can download drivers for windows 7 .... if its a pain in the ass for ya , post your model number here and ill check

I would personally wait for the first service pack to be released before jumping in there. Driver support could also be an issue

not really cracked, but the oem version has been leaked and it doesn't need a serial or activation supposedly.

Wouldn't these posts be considered piracy and against the rules for this forum???

And isnt one of these people a Mod?

maybe if youre mpaa or riaa, but l haven't given him a copy, or even given him a direct link to a copy.
just like mod chips are legal in australia, those sites and tools i gave him can be used to download legitimate software. plus he asked if it was legal and i told him it wasn't.
telling someone where to buy a handgun and how to use it isn't murder, and this isn't piracy.

I thought if you used the words Window7 and copy in the same sentence that you OS would crash?

Crap. My laptop just crashed.:(

I'm at Tafe and studying Cert 3 in I.T Support, and we have used Windows 7. While it is a huge improvement from Vista, there are a number of flaws with it.

For example, with Windows 7, there is a throwback in Filename security. Where a hacker provides a file with a changed extension to pretend it is something else (launchme.exe.txt for example). An unsuspecting user launches it and is infected by the payload within the file. Happily, this is easily solved by changing a single setting in Windows 7, hopefully Microsoft will do this for the final release, to save a lot of potential hassle.

There is also the frequent reports of crashes that come into play. It becomes a nuisance when your computer crashes in the middle of something important. I use Windows XP Service Pack 2 and it does not let me down.
Windows 7 does have some setbacks compared to the previous versions, but I'd say it is far a lot better than Vista, but not exactly XP standards (as my opinions go).
