So 2 years ago i went through the exact same thing with monster trucks that the mini t drivers of two day are going through, that is you guys didnt get a full days racing set out for you @ the Interclubs(Support Class), It sucks i know ~:( In order for a fulls days racing you all need to get together & attend every interclub that is hosted in numbers to begin with, this means every event .2nd some one needs 2 make a proposal to there WORMA deligate, who will present the proposal on your behalf to WORMA.Your proposal will then be heard @ the next meeting with a decision made by the WORMA deligates .What are your thoughts on this matter guys ??Are you happy only having 1 qualifyer & 1 final or do you wont more races, May be the guys @ TA are able to hold a voting pole on this matter ?? Im for 1 as keen as mustard to see this class of racing move up a notch.Im also a WORMA deligate for WC & would gladly place any proposal forward to WORMA on behalf of the 1/18 scale drivers. :)

As an owner of a 1/18th scale car, I would love to see the class get recognised & get a full days racing.
I really enjoy racing my mini-t & the class seems to be a great start point, with relative low cost involved.
Also seeing how West Coast Model Rally Club has been actively promoting the class(by having free runs & stuff), the interclub has almost seemed to have taken 2 steps back. So why not make it an "official class"? or at least have the full day's racing (not like there was a problem filling the grid, I mean 4wd mod only had 2 cars, i think).
I know that I would not have started racing if I had to go get a 1/10th.. not that i dont want one. I just cant afford one at this point in time.
Personally I left after finding out that I had to wait till the end of the day just for the finals. I just couldnt justify hanging around for 3-4 hours just for another 5 mins of play.
I wouldnt mind paying the full entry fee, & honestly if I knew we were only going to get 1 qualifier & 1 final, I wouldnt have signed up (not a cost $$$ issue).
It was nice to see so many 1/18th's there though.
*my 2 cents worth*

gents, well said...
Every single time the 1/18th's come out on the track, people stand up and take a look, why? coz they are insane!... even the slower one's do some crazy stupid stuff that makes everyone gasp or laugh..
buzz in the pits is, "i want a 1/18th"... "i can race a second class, 1/18th"... "fun stuff, I'm gonna go get one".
etc.
It's going to get BIGGER!... We're lucky as it is that WC is supporting them by running them on fri nights, and yesterdays interclub!
The fact of the matter is, there is more hop-up's on the market for 1/18th than there is for 1/10th.. it's MASSIVE. You could probably build four or five different mini-T's, out of different manufacturer's parts, from scratch, without using a single factory boxed part. Thats saying something about the support for this scale. The Associated Factory Team RC18T is getting more popular too! (and more hop-ups coming out everyday)
I'm trying as hard as I can to get the 1/18th guys to events!! People need to just rock up and give it a blast!
As Ivan said, it's so cheap to get into. sure you could spend a grand on a 1/18th, but you can also race and have an absolute ball on the cheap too... a stock 1/18th with a 6-cell battery can easily win races.
I'm trying my hardest not to make this web site so 1/18th orientated..... It could steer the other scale drivers away. not what we're tryna do.
the ONLY way to get 1/18th bigger in WA, is to do what Darren said, and GET TO THE TRACK.. fill a grid, make a class of 1/18th.
If you haven't played with a 1/18th yet, your missing out, you should go buy one and give it a try. they're damn cheap these days!

One of the best things about 1/18th is that when people ask us "how much?" we can say from $150. No other class has an entry level cost that low!
Plus they put the fun back in! Theres just no way you can take these crazy little things seriously! And speed won't win a race, if we hit a bump we could end up upside down or back to front so winning is a matter of luck most of the time!

Is it @ all posible to place a brochure in the box with every rc model sold explaining the places in witch you can race there new model. This is a two way street with the rc clubs picking up new memberships & the hobby shops selling the latest hop ups that are avalible.I know there are alot of 1/18 drivers that visit TA but not all of u come down to race, having a brochure attached to the box may be a way of getting more drivers down to a track.Lets all have a chat with our local hobby shops. :) Can some one make up a brochure with clubs ,race days web pages ect ect to submit to a hobby shop to see what they think ??

im keen to attempt racing with both my mini-t's and after talking to king bob on saturday the rc18t is looking like a very possible purchase in the near future.
when and where are the races?

1/18 is definitely addictive...I've owned 1/8 scale trucks, 1/8 scale buggies, hardcore on road nitro cars, electric drifters, etc etc....and NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING, has been as fun as my Mini-T.
Its now the only RC I own, and I intend to use it to its full extent in the near future IE race it as much as I can ;)

I already plug the clubs when i sell someone anything electric offroad, and give flyers out. And i know some of the people have come down. I'm sure the hobby shops would be happy to include a flyer.
I was going to make up a new one anyway with new contact info on them, so i'll have a go. Plus i have a couple of photos that i can use :P

When you purchased from RMS did they give you any imformation about the race clubs in perth ?? :?

i ordered it online.
RMS wouldnt do anything intelligent like that, they are too busy delaying my other orders and being grumpy assbandits to bother giving pple advice on where they could race thier newly acquired cars...

be careful what you say about hobby shops on the site pls... I've had to alter/remove some posts in the past :)
It's cool to have a rant, so long as you have reason's for them etc...
I shop at Radio Models, and Perth Hobby, and even Ryper (as I'm a member and live around the corner)
RMS have wild cheap prices and an amazing online shop, Perth Hobby have loads of things in stock, and wicked advice from staff that also race at the tracks you do.
cant say much about the other shops. Ryper's shop is mainly a 'track support' store for me. Good prices on TYRES! offer discounts for members, etc.
This is going off topic
the topic here is getting the 1/18th stuff going, hard, at events!

links to good community sites (oh my god... maybe TA!!! :P )
also info sites from broad points of view etc (not manufacturer specific but more like in categories of electric off road, 1/18th, nitro on road etc)
info on the clubs, etc
James, i wasnt voicing an opinion on a hobby shop as such, more so the abysmal service i recieve from its staff. in general i will order things i wont have to ask them about but if i need advice i will come here or a forum specifically for what i need.
Perth Hobby Centre has an amazing range of stock. if they had a proper online ordering facility i would go to them instead. Having to fax an order off feels a little stoneage compared the ease of purchasing im used to online. Having said that, what a truly helpful bunch of guys they have there.
James
30-05-2005, 01:10 PM
Maybe I should talk to Perth Hobby about setting up an online shop :)
opAsx
30-05-2005, 01:19 PM
for my sake... please do :)
thier prices are a little more than radiomodels prices but i would go to them for service alone.
service is worth a 5-10% premium on a $1000 order
and looking at how much i have spent at RMS over the last month and a bit i reckon i would have gladly given perth hobby an extra $200 to avoid the meatheads I have had to deal with :S
justo316
30-05-2005, 01:28 PM
Although, aren't there taxes or other costs that you avoid by operating online? Isn't that how RMS do it? If so, those costs could be passed onto tus customers and we'd have some decent local competition for RMS for once.
opAsx
30-05-2005, 01:37 PM
i dont know about tax exemptions etc but the cost of a product provided and sold online is considerably lessthan something you have to sell through a retail outlet. (less staff salesperson time required etc)
i think when my father worked out what it woudl cost for him to sell the same stock online he was selling in his store (not hobby related) it worked out he could make the same profit margins while reducing retail pricing on the items themselves by an avergae of 11%
he was selling video projectors and home theatre/PA tot he public and has since dropped the public from his customer base and concentrates on business clients and schools/ govt departments and so on.
he factored in set up costs of the online store, time for packaging, sales persons time, opening hours, shop overheads etc and based it on the average sales he was making per week.
over the year he was also confident he would have been able to pump out more stock witht he whole 24/7 sales abilities the web provides.
the only reason he was entertaining the idea of an online shop was its not feasible for him to have 12 different projectors to demo to people in his showroom as well as the huge amount of other things he sells.
so many benefits... and as justo said, somethign to hopefully offer some competition on the local front to RMS

James i can see how an exhisting rc enthusiust would love to have a choice of on line stores to purchase from here in perth but how is this going to help with getting more drivers down 2 the track supporting the 1/18 scale drivers. ?! :)
i tend to disagree. the internet is here for freedom of speech and i feel that as long as the critism is not moronic, idiotic and is from a personal first hand experience then it should be allowed for a member to tell us about their experience.
it also keeps the shops in line to have them know that people will tell about their bad experience, and that if you are infact dealing with the general public in the form of a retail shop that eyes are apon you.
sometimes what you may not find to be offensive at all, may just touch the nerve of someone esle and being a moderator means you must look out for _everyones_ best interest.
this is going off topic now, lets get back on topic and quickly! :)

would be more than glad to put a flyer in every car sold about racing clubs whether it be 1/18 or 1/10 or whatever!!!
We just want the clubs to give us the info and the flyers on a regular basis we have clubs drop one flyer in what is the use of that???? We will not make copies however we will put one in each box. I always tell people the clubs around but the only details I have is personal contacts which i don't like giving out. The latest info i have lists Fred and Jerry as Bayswater contacts. Other wise i suggest they buy Racing Lines which they are unlikely to do when they are buying an expensive R/C car.
Cheers,
Rob

I think it would be better if you can make a generic flyer showing imformation on the hobby store in witch the model was bought from,Clubs + Tracks & of coarce this web site & others that the local rc comunity visit. It would be better as a hole if all of the above was listed in the flyer & not just the one clubs.
Rob i thank you & Perth Hobby for supporting the growth of rc racing, ill have my people contact your people on this matter.

Will include a link to TA, PHC, and maybe the WA offroad thread at RCtech. Gotta spruce it up with some appropriate pics first :)
I'll try and have a draft done by tomorrow night.

Any other ideas as to how we can get more 1/18 drivers to become more competitive. :)
justo316
30-05-2005, 08:41 PM
Just a consideration....
A big reason why people don't want to race is cos they're shy. They don't want to look like fools on the track. I know you guys are probably all more than accomodating to the newbs, but they're not gonna realise that until they actually get over their fears and come down.
Personally, I would have gone to my first race A LOT sooner if there was the ability for me to visit the track earlier and practice by myself (or at least not in a racing environment).
I reckon, Ryper have got the idea. They allow the use of their track everyday. Kids (even big ones), can go and have a play and get comfortable with their surroundings and how to drive their car from the stands. They are then gonna be much better prepared to come for a proper race.
So, I propose that some way be found to let people onto the track at their leisure (I realise this may be unreasonable).
