want to offer hardware?

These item's would greatly assist in further development of the TA site/server:

19" RACK chassis, with or without doors. 4U to 8U high
19" patch panel (8 to 48 port)
a 19" rack PC chassis with ATX power supply
a 19" rack switch, 1/100 8 port +
(any other 19" rack stuff)
More RAM for the server (i will find out what type)
More HDD for server (just IDE, something over 40G)
a CD-RW (ide) to perform backup's

If you find a real rack server (say, dell poweredge) feel free to give it to us :)

We'd like to give something extra in return for the hardware offerings. maybe a team adrenaline email address, or something we can come up with..

When the new setup is tested and working, we will maybe be re-vamping the site completely, with a new look and feel...

Eventually we'd like to increase server link speed, however at this stage things seem fine..

If you are a linux guru, let me know.

we may also look at adding a few more moderators to the site to help moderate the forums (not that they need it).

We're looking for members to create some reviews (even if it's on your new kit, or charger, or battery pack) and find some good news! if you find industry news, submit it!

Other than that, if there's ever any admin/moderator duties you need/want me to do, I am more than willing to help out if I can considering I am jobless and spend (probably) the most time on this site.

Our basement storeroom at work is being cleared out at present, so i've got the guys keeping an eye out for a rack.

I've got a HP dual layer dvd-rw you're welcome to, and I have various RAM, let me know what you need.

Do you guys need a switch at all?
I found 3 x 24port, and 1 x 48 port enterasys fast ethernet switches in the basement too. I'll know this afternoon if i can have 1 (or 2 :D )

Yup

They've all been replaced with Cisco powered/managed switches for our IP phones.

the new server only needs DDR 333mhz (PC2700 stuff).

(anything higher will also work because its backwards compatable (the timing just slows down))

the mainboard has two slots, and slot 1 is populated with 256mb, another 256mb would be nice.

we should be OK for HDD, the new server has a 40gb. an optical drive for backups would be a wet dream!

the switch would also be a very kind donation, i beleive the current switch is out of ports if not down to the last 1 or 2.

as for more moderators, yes, james and i will discuss it this weekend.

i will rummage through my old HDD box i had a few 120GB drives out of an old PC here and im not sure if my little bro grabbed em last time he came down.

Well the dvd-rw is yours, I don't have any RAM that speed atm, but no need since it's already found, and as soon as it's confirmed, i'll grab a switch. 24 do or would you like 48 ports?

I also have a spare 40Gb hdd gathering dust if you want that?
I could whack all my 800 or so photos on it from this years race events :D

haven't found a rack yet but the storeroom is still being cleaned. We're on our second skip of rubbish :D

when i worked at cat in southguildford, they were ruthless with the throwing out. mobile phones, switches, thin clients, servers, printers.

was crazy, i hadnt seen so many people going through a couple of skips like i did that week :)

whatever u guys can rummage up, we can try to use, for sure. not sure what speed ram this machine will take. it's not too old, it's a cel 2.6ghz. with only 256MB ram. so more ram would be nice. cdrw or dvd-r for backups, rack for patch and switch, and possibly server in the future. :)
