yep, they will be fine. they used the ones destined for australia to sell in the usa anyway cause of the demand, they just swap out the plugpack.

After all that I'm passing it up , was looking at the cheaper 16gig with the intentions of adding a memory card for more storage but was told there's no memory card slot

Definately looks the goods but will wait till I get more funds for a 64gig model

Scott we have talked about this already, its a USB port not slot and ports a device are so ugly i wish the head phone jack and the dock connecter was not there, and there is realy not need for a USB port what are you going to use it for connect a camera well there is a dock adaptor for a USB camera and a adaptor for SD cards, you dont need it for anything this else and if you where thing of have an external HDD hanging off it well that is just stupid walking around with an iPad and having a HDD hanging around while you walk.

and you and flash:

"Flash was designed for PCs using mice, not for touch screens using fingers. For example, many Flash websites rely on “rollovers”, which pop up menus or other elements when the mouse arrow hovers over a specific spot. Apple’s multi-touch interface doesn’t use a mouse, and there is no concept of a rollover. Most Flash websites will need to be rewritten to support touch-based devices. If developers need to rewrite their Flash websites, why not use modern technologies like HTML5, CSS and JavaScript?

Even if iPhones, iPods and iPads ran Flash, it would not solve the problem that most Flash websites need to be rewritten to support touch-based devices."

it also sucks battery because of performance being carp but using a carp load of resources, the reliability and security are not great. So i think i am happy not to have flash on my iphones and ipad,

and scott that fact that Apple sold 300,000 ipad in that first day shows that they have not "shot itself in the foot" and 450,000 in the first week and i think it was about 2 weeks ago that they sold 1,000,000 of then and those numbers are just in the US only I dont think that there is any other thing out there in the computer industry that has sold so many so fast!

the Au $:
Wi-Fi
16GB: $629
32GB: $759
64GB: $879

Wi-Fi + 3G
16GB: $799
32GB: $928
64GB: $1049

yes OS 4 will be just like every other update to an iPhone or iPod Touch.

they will be released in AU on the 28 may but i think all the Apple stores will be all out in about 5 hour considering the demand.

Ohhhh yes the 3g version , Kai you saved me from making the mistake

I'll wait for the 64g wifi + 3g

this means I can divert my mobile to a real phone ( coz the iPhone is a terrible phone ) and receive calls on that and insert the sim card from my iPhone to the ipad and pick up 3g Internet on that as I would have my iPhone?

I'm lovin this lol

obzELiTe
20-05-2010, 01:48 PM
you might have to jailbreak it to get multitasking, the 3g phone wont support multitasking with os4 without it being jailbroken, 3gs and 4g will. i presume seeing as there has been no mention of os4 for the ipad supporting that same things as the 4g iphone that they wont turn it on for the ipad and you will need to hack the setting.
the only news about os4 has been iphone related because thats all the beta supports, os4 for the ipad is going to be released later and have extra support you don't need on a phone such as printing.

wow, was so not expecting such a passionate reply O.o I still think it was a stupid idea not to add USB PORTS, what if you want to transfer a document without having to use email or without having to sync, and what if you want to transfer it to your non primary computer which if you don't sync with your normal computer could wipe your ipad, all this trouble just to get a document or other files..

Scott I am 1000000% with you on this issue of no sd slot or USB

to me it's their way of forcing you to spend the $ on the big 1 otherwise everyone would buy the cheapo 16gig and throw a huge memory card in it

Another theory is maybee if apple need to pay a large licensing cost on having sd ??? I reckon it's the first option

The official date is the 28th like I said before and I would thing dick would be getting them (powerhouse only) but that is not set in stone the only place we know for sure is the apple stores in melb, syd and brisbane. But like I said before there is such a high "want" for these things i don't think many people who did not pre order will be able to get one from a apple store!

Ok so i missed out on the aussie release as apple sold out but believe it or not , after trying 12 stores today ( NO ONE WILL HOLD 1 EVEN FOR 10 MINUTES ) i finally found a JB HIfi that had 1 .

64Gig , Wifi + 3G

Catch ... if you buy it from JB you MUST ALSO PURCHASE a micro sim through them or you cant buy it so im stuck with a telstra sim i was forced to buy .

If i install the sim , am i locked into telstra on it or are they an open sim deal

Kai , ive always said that the iphone is the best gadget on the planet but the SHITTEST ever phone on the planet .

The ipad is a supercharged bigger version of the iphone minus the bullshit of a phone so its the best gadget on the planet atm .

What i like about it is that its a blank canvas , its just a touch screen monitor with nothing on it and you only download apps that interest you and which personalises it to your way of living .

People will say " OHH you spent $1G on it and have to buy apps still " truth is most apps are free and average apps are so cheap its incredible @ about $3 average . Its not a case of spending $90 for each program on PC or ( SORRY FOR THIS KAI ) $HUNJs on imac programs . Apps are so cheap its a joke and their been written up and released every day .

Anyway , will have more to say down the line but very very impressed , even the hardcore PC guys are trying to hate it but impressed when having a shot of it .

you see RB you know what i dont get is that every one saids that every Apple product is bad and what do we need it for, and then they either use it or 5 mouths down the track every one loves it. whats up with that. and i got mine as well haven't stopped using it that screen, the interface it's just so magical.

and RB is totally right about it, I am over in Germany right now and i have spent more than $3 on ice cream and a $3 app is worth so much more and gives me so much more than the ice cream did, i really wish i could have those $3 back and spend them on an app.

Once jail broken though correct me if I'm wrong but you can't get new os updates and on the odd chance your iPad packs up your warranty is void?

Don't know if it's just me but for how cheap apps are I probably wouldn't even consider it

Come to the new Apple Store, Perth City and bring your curiosity. It's the best place to see all the amazing things iPad can do, learn about the Mac, get set up on iPhone, check out an iPod and more. And, if you find something you like, take it home that day. When you get to the store, find a Specialist in a blue shirt. The Specialists are your guides to everything from checking in for an appointment to instant checkout. If you're one of the first 1,000 visitors, you'll get a free Apple T-shirt.*

At least we will know where Kai will be on the 26th :D

3 weeks later loving the ipad more , HEAPS of mad apps and i actually havnt opened my laptop in 2 weeks

Shits on my iphone , sold the touch , runs smoother than my 27inch Imac .

Apple finally got something pretty much perfect .

Still needs sd slot and flash but 64 gig .... plenty

Scott
22-06-2010, 11:00 PM
loving my iPad also, jailbroke it after about the 3rd day of getting it, loving every minute of it, Pros: runs hell smooth, fast as( i used to think my ipod touch was fast), after a few hard hours of racing with brightness almost full and sounds, battery life went from 86 or so to 54%, this was after 2 and a half to 3 hours!
Cons: no flash, cannot pair with say a bluetooth keyboard.
When the ipad was first advertised i thought it would be similar to a mac OS where you can copy files, made folders download stuff, not like an iphone OS with so many restrictions, but after using it its worth considering for any people thinking about getting one, just be prepared to go through loads of apps to try find the good ones ones, which without the apps, the ipad, like an itouch, isn't all that it can be :P
All in all, looks like apple got something right for a change :D

I have thought about getting one myself. I also like the 27" Imac a lot but the screen issues that plagued them from release has put me off them. Has yours had any issues RB?

remotebandit
23-06-2010, 07:00 AM
Hey Shaun , for me personally it was the BIGGEST waste of $2400 I've ever spent

my reason for buying a mac was purely because my wife is sick of having to search different hard drives or pcs in the house to find photos we've taken over the years . I hated coming home to a flat laptop the kids kept leaving me etc etc so I bought this iMac to sit on the bench as the comunal pc for the family but the main reason was for video editing and just photo organising in general

Ok , open box plug in , turn on , bright vibrant screen very nice , have a bit of a play ... Yeah not bad , not much on there just the basics

Start grabbing all my hard drives and importing all the photos into iPhoto and it finds and pulls them all with ease into a folder , grab another hdd same thing , before I know it I've got photos in it I forgot I had .... Whoop hoooo

now come the issues.

When I start iPhoto , it takes over a minute to start up as the little loading circle just keeps spinning locking up the mac so u can't do anything else , when it finally loads all pix and thumbnails on the screen it's ok till you try to open a pix and when it does then there's another delay to go back to the photos. When I go from photos to events , 2 minute delay while it works it out , and visa versa . iPhoto is like running an old 386 pc from 1990 I swear to god it's that sluggish

So I ring tech support they get me to rebuild the library , no fix still sluggish , then I have to delete them all and import them a different way , still no go sluggish finally tech support asks me how many photos I tell them there are 8700 pix in the library ( pix off net , photos of kids after 8 years , rc car photos .... It definately adds up ) and this stooge at apple tells me iPhoto locks up and is not designed to work with more than 10000 photos and I'm borderlining

so the reason I buy mac is because of video and photo editing Hd yet the photos run as slow as a pc from the early 90s and the video editing ( which is delayed as well everytime I open the program ) does not offer burning to blu Ray has really rendered this thing a piece of shit.

Yes I know you can go buy programs but why the he'll should you have to spend rediculouse $ on programs when I've shelled out stupid money allready for something claimed to be the best for what I want

this mac is exactly as if I finally stretched my budget went all out and bought a Ferrari then after spending all my money on it I get to the lights and a commodore beats me in a drag and when I confront Ferrari about it they tell me " ohh didn't realise you wanted to drive it if you want to use it properly bring it back in and for a fee we will upgrade your car with a program to the motor so you can actually beat that Holden

Not happy with it

ohhh screen is absolutely sensational though

Kai

You are dam right mik but also on the 25th not just the 26th,

Rb and Scott I am the same I have not use a computer since I got iPad but I see not need for that badly made flash, and I don't see why you need to expand the HDD size with SD. And tomorrow, seeing as I am in Germany right now I will go check the new iPhone 4 with it's new screen and 720p HD recording and giroscope (I think that is how you spell it?) I and will let you know here if it is better then iPad.

Very disappointed in you Scott, with your jail breaking

And don't know that it shits over iPhone but is better yes
And I have to say computer are just shit now what do we need them for besides torrents.

Might look at buying an Ipad this weekend then. On the topic of Imacs, Well what really bugs me is Microsoft is always getting accused of anti competitive violations and drag through the courts over just about anything YET apple are 100% anti competitive when it comes to there computers. By rights the same law MS gets held to should also apply to apple and as such there OS should be sold to anyone who wants to buy and use it. We all know you can get a patched version of Mac OS and run it on a pc but thats not on in apples books as they make you buy there computer to go with the OS and if thats not anti competitive then what is? I don't want to buy a mac just to use there OS like I don't have to buy a MS computer to run Windows. Can you imagine the field day all the governments and software producers would have with MS if they tried that on? Also how many non apple companys are allowed to write and sell software for the mac? Really is a joke to hold MS to such strict rules and laws while letting apple get away with anything they like.

10k, thats pretty shit. i use picasa free from google, 27k of photos.
my pc needs a reinstall and it still runs fine. its one of the few programs that is still fast given this install of vista was done when vista was released. well prior to release. shhh.
