I dunno whether this has been covered, but someone gave me this idea tonite (hmph cough! opAsx cough!) to start this thread.

I'll start it off. I was marshalling a race with nitros when one of my friends was racing my MT. He flipped it at a corner so I rushed over to get it back on all fours. Now I should know my own truck and where everythings is, so I still grabbed the very hot exhaust pipe with all my fingers instead of the front/back of the truck. I could still feel the stinging weeks later :@

i will draft my screw ups into a word document and do a multi-entry post later in the weekend when im sure i will have covered the majority of my nubness...

Falling ass over tit at the West Coast interclub last year while marshalling would be my dumb dumb. :@

The area I was marshalling was full of clay silt and it was soaked .... Leg went one way, ass the other .... BANG! x)

hehe the car is fine

if anyting it runs better :P

all it did was stop the air from getting into the carb, it wasnt even wet in the carb throat.

just had to wait for the filter to dry out before air would get through it and it would run... of all the times i wish i had a hair dryer in my car :P

hehe, the traveller is a winner :)
im thinking about keeping it so the new MT has a mate :P

cant wait for this truck to arrive, should be 2 weeks :(

I have had the worst

about two years ago i was racing onroad when it was still at shenton park. Anyways i was marshelling a super touring and a car hit the piped track causing one pipe to roll out into the middle of the straight. Being alertive i ran to the middle to tried to reposition it just as the president at that time's brand new car came hertling down the straight heading for my ankles. I tried to jump so it would under me but instead i came down ontop of it follwed by the loudest ooooooooooooo... from the huge crowd watching. I packed up and left straight away.

when first starting out last year, i sprayed CRC/WD40 into my electric motor between races thinking it would clean it and keep it lubricated.

I purchaced my first tmaxx and thought how hard can this be.. BAAA who needs instructions..
All batteries charged, fuel in tank.. Ok here we go !!!
Damn it it wont start..
That dirty mongrel has sold me a dud.
I stomp into the LHS slam it down on the counter and demand a full refund as this was unacceptable.
He takes the electric stater, TURNS THE 7.2 BATTERY AROUND and BAM she fired up first time..
I felt about 1 inch tall..
doooooooooo.

I havent done anything REALLY stupid, I'm quite careful and patient when it comes to my RCs so I havent made too many mechanical errors, but as with everyone else, I've done stupid things.

One thing which I thought was a bit stupid was spending huge amounts of $$$ on my Tamiya TG10R, with Racy hop ups (Racy is a company in Japan that makes high quality hop ups for Tamiya), and it still had heaps of steering slip, no adjustable engine mounting holes, meaning you were restricted to using Tamiya spurs and pinions, couldnt run 30mm foams on the rear, and it had no provision for a rear exhaust engine...WASTE OF TIME!

The dumbest of all?

Was running a mates nitro car around a small car park at about 8pm at night, setting it up for him...I ran it without the shell on, and half my luck I kit a kerb and flipped it, and it landed in a way that it landed on the throttle horn and stripped the throttle servo gears.

The throttle got stuck open enough so it took off over another kerb into a huge park.

We ended up running after the car for about 10 minutes, and it was running rings around us, at a pace which was slightly faster than we could run. I finally intercepted it and kicked it as hard as I could and it flipped upside down.

About a week later, at the hands of the owner this time, this same car had the receiver batteries fall out at top speed and it went full pelt into a kerb at Hillarys, writing it off.

That car was jinxed!!

i think my entry here will be a lesson as to why educating people on how to operate a nitro is necessary... cos there may well be another person out there somewhere on this earth who possibly is as thick as i am... you never know...

1. Got the kyosho pure ten and thought cool, pull start, like the lawnmower, pulled it and the pullstart broke, there was not the metre and a half of the pull start cable i thought there would be...

2. decided to fix the pullstart, remove pull start assembly... BOING!!! that was a big spring... wonder if it was needed?

3. finally reqound spring and got it back into the pull start assembly, rewound the pullstart cable and reassembled... lets try that again...

DOH!

4. repeated steps 2 and 3 but remebered to tie a knot in the cable end this time...

5. noticed an awful lot of blue smoke "hmmm i havnt seen a nitro in ages, i cant remember all that blue smoke... i must be supposed to tune that out with the HSn set to lean..."

6. after replacing piston, sleeve and conrod from my endeavors with "way too fking lean" fuel settings i ran the car in again like i read on the internet. car is a champion, runs so well and is currently in the loving care of my much younger brother who has learnt form my cock-ups...

7. forgot to put the traveller on blocks when starting for the 1st time so i could adjust throttle etc... car ran off at full speed into my dads neighbours front yard and churned all his little flowers across his lawn... traveller at full speed in soft garden bed = 20 foot rooster tails

8. went for a bash with some people in canningvale, drove into my own ankle with traveller at about 15 km/hr... huge bruise for 2 weeks later.

9. i have tried to pick up all my nitros at least once by the exhaust :(

10. i have tasted nitro fuel more than any normal human being should have to

11. i am the only person i know to have burnt my bottom lip with a glow starter

12. i learnt the hard way... eventually... that the mouth is not the best place to store glow plugs... USE A POCKET!

13. when opening your tool box, open it the right way up. if not, make sure you dont open it over really soft sand, digging through this soft sand later to retrieve the contents on your tool box is a pain in the ass.

14. dont post a few of your screw ups on TA forums... you will look dumb.

I accidently soldered the positive end of a battery to the negative end. I burnt myself trying to pull the wires apart.

Oh, and then there was the case of brand new KAN cell pack I made that mysteriously disintegrated when I tried to fit it in my mini-t.

Maybe this is why I went back to nitro :P

dint worry justo :P

the revo hardly got used in my possession, it was just not fast enough compared the 1/6 and i felt it was a shit load flimsier.

and if im going to hit myself with an rc car it needs to be well built...

yeah sorry about that

I've got another. I changed the sub c battery in my glow plug igniter and put it in my pocket. In between a race I was standing around talking to some guys when me mate gave me my car keys. I put them in the same pocket as the battery. With one hand holding a drink/smoke and the other hand in the pocket (looking cool), the combination of metals on the key chain managed to touch both + and -. So you can imagine I yelled "FAAAAARRRRKKKK!!!" !yikes pulling my zapped hand out and at the same time my leg kinda gave way as it zapped my leg as well. If you were standing talking to me, you would of thought an invisible car came crashing into, me side on.

At least you could still paint it on the inside properly if you wanted to.

I put the stickers on without removing that overspray film once. I lost a whole sheet of Tamiya stickers and had to run an all white, non-stickered car.

KingBob
04-06-2005, 08:29 PM
haha, even i've done that justo. Painted up a nice tamiya 360 modena body, was halfway through stickering wen i realised I hadn't pee;ed the overspray film off.

Oh, and RC_king, the quote is "I reject your reality and substitute my own". No point rejecting something then substituting it :P

KingBob
04-06-2005, 09:21 PM
Yes, i know what it means, but it only means that if you say it correctly.

Think about it, how do you reject something, and then accept that something? You've got it all wrong. Someone back me up here :P

05-06-2005, 01:25 PM
ok ok....can someone explain what's going on here?

Is it Person A who is rejecting Person B's reality and substituting Person A's own reality for a new one?

Or is it Person A who is rejecting Person B's reality and substituting Person B's reality for Person A's reality?

I'm confused. %-6

KingBob
05-06-2005, 01:26 PM
LOL, king, yes I DO watch mythbusters, thats the whole point, you've quoted it WRONG!

It's:
"I reject your reality and substitute my own."
NOT
"I reject your reality and substitute it for my own."

Think logically about it, it's really not that hard!

KingBob
05-06-2005, 01:28 PM
See Justo you're confused because of the "for it" that King has inserted. It should be A rejects B, and uses A's own.

The other way just defies logic.

justo316
05-06-2005, 01:32 PM
Well, when you put it that way KingBob, it seems RC_King's logic works. ie. He's rejecting your reality, and substituting yours for his?

Talk about the dumbest thing anyones done in RC.....

KingBob
05-06-2005, 01:38 PM
No, it's not the same.

"I reject your reality and substitute my own"
Means I use my own reality, not yours.

"I reject your reality and substitute it for my own."
Means i reject your reality, and then use it for my own. Defeating the point of rejecting it in the first place.

The 2 sayings are opposite each other.

PS: i REALLY hate to lose a good argument, especially when i'm right! :D

!lmao !lmao !lmao

justo316
05-06-2005, 01:44 PM
Oh, I get what you're saying now KingBob. However I reckon you can read it both ways.

It comes down to how you read the last part "substitute it for my own". You are reading it as he is subsituting "it" (the rejected reality) AS his own (pointless). We're reading it as he is substituting "it" (rejected reality) and replacing it WITH his own (correct).
