I am chasing an Ipod touch for my youngest sons seventh bithday. If you have one in good nic and wish to sell I have the cash ready.

On the subject of things Apple after being on holidays I went back to work last tuesday and was greeted by my boss with a please explain. I work for a Telco and they provided me with a free promo phone so that we could show off all the cool things you can do with a smart phone on the the 3rd gen networks. I already have a free company phone so passed the sim card on to my oldest boy. Any way it appears he has been doing a great job of showing off the network and managed to clock up a $32000 bill in the last fours months . This is just a little more than the $500 a month limit we were asked to stick to . Needless to say I am not very impressed with him. Most of the cost was data usage . Fortunately it is unlikely that they will do any thing about it but if you have an I phone or similar it certainly pays to keep an eye on your data usage as the price per meg once you go over your data cap can be very expensive. It would appear the geniuses who gave us these free promo phones to show off the 3rd gen networks capabilities gave us a service with no data plan attached so even though his data usage was quite high the bill racked up a lot quicker than it should have . My carrier charges $2 per meg for every meg downloaded over the cap allowance , some are up to $25. Imagine if my son had have been with one of those networks and you did have to pay , the bill would have been over $400 000. I have heard a few horror stories of people clocking up massive charges with various networks and being stuck with the bill.

Yes I was wondering the same as you ,how the hell did he manage to use 16 gig of Data in 4 months . So I grabbed his phone last night to see what the hell 32 grands worth of data gets you. It appears he has been going stupid downloading games .

PS: Still looking for an I pod touch

Downloading games hey? he trying to save the whole of iTunes on his phone or something ? Sheesh that's a lot of data.

Here's my story:

I used to have my WAP (internet on your mobile) banned from my service (i wanted it that way). Then one day the ban was magically no longer in place. I called up telstra, they said nah the ban is still in place, you're not getting charged for anything. So i used the internet on my phone a little, and then i started seeing the charges on my online bill after a day or two... so i called telstra up a second time, they still said that my WAP ban was still in place and insisted i wasn't going on the internet (even though i was being billed for it). I decided to flog the shit out of it (Spent a night download every audio file with the iQuran app (total about 700mb in data in one night). Sure enough got a $2000 bill. Then phone them up and said i'm not paying it, because the service is banned on my phone to which the teller replies "No it shows here your WAP ban was lifted 2 days ago". I laughed and hung up on the retard. After the bill was not paid, their "debt collectors" called and asked when i'm gonna be paying, to which i replied i will not be. He asked why, i said, you keep records of everything, you look into the three previous times i called you and you figure it out.

A week later I then got a call from some lady at "The office of The CEO" so she said... asking about payment, again i told her i won't be paying, then they cancelled my service, so I got in touch with Telecommunications Ombudsman and a couple of days later i got a call from telstra saying the 2 grand had been removed from my account, and i had been given an extra 500 credit for my troubles.

Moral of the story is, Telstras incompetence is awesome.
