Hi guys! I'm a newbie (so be gentle!) to r/c, I've got an rtr ftx blaze free from a mate, it's had a better motor 370 I think (no idea what this means?) and 1200 battery pack, it goes like stink too!
I see there's a few hop ups (love that frase) available, but what do you guys think to the blaze? And what should my hard earned cash go on first??

I don't know too much about 1/18th cars, but since you're in the UK, maybe you could try www.uk-microrc.co.uk for some ideas?

Well if he hasn't done so already, go with a Brushless motor system. Since you're in the UK, i suggest looking at LRP/Nosram's Micro Modified Vector motor, and run that motor with a Mamba Max pro or similar 1/10 ESC.
Battery wise, you can either use one of Intellect's 1600mah NiMh packs, or if you want to also get a fast charger for the car, i recommend going with a Turnigy 2200mah 7.4v LiPo for the AE RC18 series.
Get an upgraded servo also. Dunno what'll fit in that car, but anything Digital will do the job just fine in a Micro.
