Gudday All,
Looking forward to a new hobby, I just bought up all the electrics I need to put in a 1/10 4wd buggy like a B44.
I started with mid range gear, Ezrun 6000kv combo, Intellect Lipo, something called a Mystery B6 that charges it, a Hitec servo and Flysky tran/rec.
Now all I need is a car to put it all in haha.
Hoping to get a used B44, but then there is the LRP s10 Blast BX, which is way cheaper, and I wonder why. More plastic, less carbon, for starters.
Does anyone know if these LRP cars fit Lipo batteries?
I'd definitely prefer a TA B44 though.
Anyway, can't wait to get into it for a little fun!

I may be wrong, but i hope you have a saddle pack lipo, because i think the b44 takes a saddle lipo. The B4 takes a standard lipo though i think.

Regards to the cheaper cars, if you're gonna race, i wouldn't bother. If you're going to run it up and down the street with mates and run it at the track every few months, then yeah the cheaper option is probably better.

Quality cars are better for racing as they are easy to work on and are reliable.
Cheaper cars have a tendency to be not well layed out and hence harder to work on, tend to be less reliable, but parts are generally cheap so if you run with mates you're bound to crash and break things which will be cheap to replace, even though it does break slightly more often than a more expensive car.

It is a saddle pack, and I came fairly close to buying two lots. I am hoping to find a used but good nick B44, cant search classifieds yet but i did sneak a look under a friends username, and they are out there. TA are well established with lots of spares, I hope to have one by next week, be done with it. After the initial outlay it could be a reasonably cheap hobby, unless I get the "bug" bigtime, haha.
Definitely going to get a second saddle pack.

if your getting a b44 then its going to get expensive just keeping a supply of parts on hand :P

I'll take the advice from someone who's BT, DT.
Cheers!

if you can find yourself a B44, it is definitely a much better spec comparing to the LRP. Also, the B44 will be a more popular car in the race pit (providing you want to get into racing) so the chance of you replacing a broken part is high. Plus most serious race-oriented hobby shops will stock the parts (or know the reference to).

The LRP Blast looks capable enough to start the hobby with, but you may struggle to find parts support locally.. The design reminds me of the original Kyosho ZX-5 actually... it takes stick packs, but saddles 'should' fit as well.

if you are after a used B44 or a B44.1, there should be a few on the market after the April Offroad National titles.

I have seen a number of used B44 (original) for sale here. Some at good prices. Also check out RC-tech as there are a lot more race-oriented goodies for sale there nationwide. As usual.. Buyers Beware (in an online secondhand market)

hope it gives you some food for thought.

have owned 3 b44's currently own 2 have never had parts break easily. Only parts breakages are in wrecks that will do same damage to any car on the market.

Thanks for the tips so far folks, definitely leaning towards the 44. I would love to race but first I must learn how to drive it well.
The last rc I had was a kmart car over 20 years ago. My last hobby was a hifi turntable system that got out of hand financially bigtime (but sounds oh so good) so Im used to spending a bit on what interests me.

Considered the Tamiya DB01? Seeing as a B44 is a bloody expensive buggy, about $400+ on its own. the DB01 is in a sense a plastic version of Tamiya's TRF501X Race buggy, and shares most of the chassis components with the 501. It's also fully adjustable like a B44, but tough as nails too, making it a good basher as well as a good racer. one of Tamiya's wholesalers in Australia is also here in WA so parts are readily available too.

I used to own one myself, ran a 10.5t Venom brushless in it and it went like the clappers! bloody awesome buggies to bash, yet still handled decently on a track...

Kyosho also makes a really good one which i used to own. The Lazer ZX5. As an RTR it actually goes really well, seeing as it's basically a prebuilt version of their older ZX5 Competition kit with Plastic shocks instead of the fancypants alloy ones. Stannies and Sik also carry most of the parts for that car in stock as well.

Stanbridges also does Schumacher's Cat SX4 cars, which come prebuilt, all you need is tires and paint for the body. these are a bit expensive but are comparable in quality to the B44.
