hehe replace the broken bits, get some ball bearings and a decent battery then a decent little motor.

after you are used to that upgrade your shocks.

then your rx and esc

then go all out and buy justo's carbon fibre hopped up mini t and throw your stock one and mildly hopped ones in the bin :(

im selling one, a stock one with a alloy radio tray, alloy front shock tower and maybe a few other spares (depending what i find in the tool box i wont need for my main mini-t) look in the classifieds :) its had 40 minutes use and comes with box and manual and is in mint condition.

:P

edit i posted it in chatbox, not in classifieds :P

"also pple, im selling a stock mini t which has had no more than 40 minutes use, its the stock RTR and will come with some ally bits, sway bar kit (front and rear), and some other spares, has box and manual etc and has only seen the inside of the house and the carport/driveway. offers ~$130 considered"

Thanks guys.
We have two tracks in Bendigo(Vic) , a road track and an offroad track. I'll be checking them out ASAP.
Any local members here??
My first mods start in the next couple of days including 6 cell batt and the faster motor.
Next will be the wheel bearings and suspension.
Here's my baby...

not wanting to preach or anything, but maybe do it the other way around.

bearings 1st. then battery, then motor.

bearings make an obvious improvement on a stock mini t. then adding a higher powered battery will make another improvement.

adding the newer motor will make a third improvement.

going the other way around your still relying on the plastic bushes to stay alive (they dont last long at all and if you put a faster motor and larger battery they will last alot less :( )

they tend to heat up and disintegrate even in the stock trim relatively fast (one mate has had less than 3 hours running in stock trim before they gave way)

its a cute little truck :) and damn the red looks tasty even compared to the grey one :)

thanks for the advice... i might hold off on the motor then and get the bearings with the battery...
I'll have the rest in a week anyway! lol
With those hop-ups i'm hoping to be happy enough with the performance. I will be moving onto the looks department then.

nothing worng with that balistc :P

/me looks at his all alloy and carbon fibre that now weighs more than a stock mini t :(

bearings and oil shocks FIRST... power improvements last...

jim you sound like a smart man - personally I go for performance first - bling although nice can send a car into the cost of others that you THOUGHT you couldnt afford !!!

Welcome to the board Jim. This place is full of mini-t owners as you can tell.

When you want a motor, check me out and I'll hook you up if don't want to go brushless ;)

Yeh I too agree bearings first, then some nice GP batts, or KAN for a little cheaper, then get a new motor. A cheapie speed300 6v might prove to be a nice upgrade.

justo316
12-06-2005, 04:58 PM
Yeah no point getting batteries until after a motor upgrade. Although, melting the stock motor was kinda fun :P

James
12-06-2005, 06:53 PM
Or buy justos new beast motor and have some real fun. If you got a 6v motor then you would have to buy 6v batterys.

this so isnt true dude. the standard motor will take a 7.2V pack no problem, ivan raced heaps and heaps on his stock motor, and then speed motor...

you want to run it for around 5 mins, with a real good cooling down between runs... ;)

justo316
12-06-2005, 07:18 PM
I thought you melted bits off your stocker James?

In any case, who wants to have to have to wait for their motor to cool down after 5min before they can play with it again?

stock??? whats that???

:P

i've opened a can of worms eh? one thing i've learned real quick is that like so many other hobbies, there are MANY ways to go about hopping up a car, and at the end of the day we will make some mistakes, burn a little money here and there, but hopefully learn something and end up with a sick car...
Maybe at my own peril, i am about to buy a 7.2 volt battery and the wheel bearings. Then in a week or so (payday$$) i am upgrading the motor and getting oil shocks.
When something goes wrong you are welcome to say "i told you so!" :-)

opAsx
12-06-2005, 08:27 PM
looks like a good plan to me :)

you should last a week of fairly moderate usage out of the stock and hey... if it lasts 5 mins its only a weeks wait so not so bad :)

then you will get a taste for speed and it wont be long til your burning up the streets with a lipo fueled mamba powered carbon fibre mini t :P

jim007

I think i'll be going alluminium... The local hobby shop has a stack of nice blue ally parts which look sweet and should be pretty strong. Will look hot with the shell I have planned.

opAsx
12-06-2005, 08:52 PM
i wanted ally at first too, then saw how much lighter the carbon fibre was and made my decision.

i was lucky the one i got in a trade was carbon ibre chassis :P

I have been running my MQ on a 4.8v race motor with 7cell GP batteries. And yeh I agree that thing gets bloody hot. I don't think a 6v running at 7.2 will kill anything though. I guess the best option would be to get that beast raptor though. Heard some VERY good stories about it.

jim007
13-06-2005, 06:58 AM
Yeah the buzz i'm hearing is the raptor is the way to go.

BALISTC
13-06-2005, 11:28 AM
Or just get a Mamba 8000 with 3 Cell LiPo :P

I'd like to see how long the stock bushes last with that setup!! :D

opAsx
13-06-2005, 11:33 AM
hehe, you would just see a simmering pile of smoke after about 20 seconds :P

14-06-2005, 01:05 PM
Can someone write up a list of decent motors, and batteries with approximate prices? Or tell me a good place to find them? I like the sound of the raptor but i don't want to find something better five minutes after buying one!

Also what suppliers do you guys recommend???

BALISTC
14-06-2005, 01:17 PM
Brushed, you cant beat the Beast Raptor...

modelflight.com.au are pretty good for all your Mini-T needs..

blindbatts.com for nimh batteries

b-p-p.com for lipos and brushless motors

precisionrc.com for 3 Racing hop ups and other high end electric racing components

towerhobbies.com for anything RC related

problem is.

a brush motor + esc, is going to cost more than a Mamba Brushless setup !!! (in most cases)

Go Mamba Brushless :)

justo316
14-06-2005, 01:24 PM
That's true, but factor in the need for lipos and possibly a charger and the cost for brushless goes through the roof. Even on an 8 cell GP1100 pack, my mamba still showed annoying signs of cogging.

Also, a lot of people have escs they can pull from other cars, so going brushed is always gonna be cheaper/easier.

justo316
14-06-2005, 01:24 PM
damn, as rc_king said :)

opAsx

i was submitting a review you cockbiters... :P

i prefer my mamba. if your going to do something, do it right. want a fast 1/18th, go brushless and lipo. want one thats cheap go brushed and scab a esc form another car and use your old battery packs.

i havnt had a prob with my lipos and im as careless and clumsy as all hell.

i havnt even bother using the battery packs i bought form you justin once i got the lipos.

having said that, the brushed motors seem to be more controllable (meaning slower) and easier to use with thier batteries etc.

on a budget, definately go for a brushed set up.

Well I got myself a 7.2 volt batt today and gave the car a run at a skate park. With EVERYTHING else stock the car flew. Literally. Straight over a table top and about 2 metres through the air. The car is twice as fast compared to running on AA's. I'll try to keep the motor as cool as i can until next week when i get a new motor. Man these things can jump. And donuts! I can't wait to get back to my favourite ants nest! lol.

rofl, thats awesome to hear.

give it shit... your replacing the motor anyway :P

justo316
14-06-2005, 10:01 PM
I purposely ran the stock motor hard and it lasted a good minute or so. Then my mini-t had an exhaust for a little while while it burned up ;) Was fun!

jim007
14-06-2005, 10:18 PM
i'm taking it out for a good thrashing tomorrow... I'm sure it wont end well for the little engine that could... and it's going to be a long wait till next thursday to get the new motor... but i can't resist lol.

Can anyone tell me what's going on???
I change my settings, my name, signature, avatar etc and it tells me my avatar is saved but when i check the settings nothing is saved???? WTF?
