I am a fan of drifting but only just getting into it, and after reading about counter steer drifting, I came across this fancy little piece of equipment that HPI (and I'm sure a lot of other brands) have come out with to provide easier and better drifting. Something to do with the sideways movement on the car causes the box to auto counter steer.

Personally, I dislike the idea. Cool as it may be, and even very helpful. Why take away something that you can do yourself with a bit of practice.

But since I've brought it up, i might as well ask.

Are there any pro's to using this "Dbox"?
Would you use one?
Are they sold in our local hobby shops?

not allowed in competitions, and doubtful anyone here is running with one.

i have one, still unopened amongst my collection. i keep meaning to try it out and see if it really works like they say.

pretty sure any of the shops if they don't have one, would order one.

Ive seen them in Stannies a few times.. As Obz said they are not allow in competitions and also not allowed in racing for that matter.

One of my mates had one and I grabbed it off him for a remote camera mount idea i had , I gave it a run on my car out of interest and mine is a Counter Steer car, it worked very well and all i did was initiate the corner and let go of the steering and it did it for me then id flick the steering to change direction and let go of the steering again... it was fun for a very laps only drifting with the throttle but i see why they are banned outright..

It would get boring real quick drifting with one day in day out..

There aren't any pro's to using one IMO, its only going to hinder your learning

Ahh, the good ole cheat box. I use one all the time when I fly a helicopter.

If you want one go to any good hobby shop and ask for a Futaba G-190 Gyro it'll cost you half the price of a cheat box. The only difference between the two are the labels.

Ahhh, that makes a lot of sense about the comps since it is just like you said, turn in and let a part do the work. The video of the guy trying to drift without it is just silly. Even as a starter straight up using rubber tires (im assuming they are for sprint? - came stock standard on my e10 gt) i was able to chuck it sideways and hold the drift (especially in the rain - that was fun).

Also, just wondering - does it take away control of the steering temporarily? Or can you freely make your car spin out?

They work well in a HPI Baja to stop sliding out on take off when you're tyres are screwed!

The d-box would just take away the satisfaction you would receive once learning on our own how to drift successfully.... My opinion anyway

Im with Superoo 100000% , i just use a Gyro but in saying that , i havnt decked my drift car with one but instead popped a few in my 1:5 scale stuff with just a bit of gain just to keep them off the gutters up and down the street
