BB see RMS have cheap twin packs of batteries for $35

only venom 1800mah 7.2V but at $35 for 2 packs thats not bad for hacking about with.

im thinking of grabbing 4 or 5 pairs for the emaxx's yard duites :D

the sister in law bent one of the shock shafts with a nice meeting of the emaxx and kerb this afternnon. was easily straightened with pliers tho. still, i will get some replacement parts after i get the next maxx :)

It'll cost you $230 for 8 packs that way (that'll include heat shrink and battery bars. I am going to order 8 for myself soon as I need them for Club days when running the Maxx

SCHWING!!!!!

looking good BB.

what brushless set up you looking at going?

Bowling Ball
07-07-2005, 11:18 AM
Not sure just yet. The guys say ther're not that quick out of the corners. I have the feeling that might be to do with coging.

On of the guys at West Coast runs a Dewalt Drill motor in his max, the brushless guys have a hard time keeping up as the Dewalt is pure torque comming out of any corner.

I need to experiment with some motors first to see if they suit my driving style, but before that happens I have to get this thing as tuff as nails!

opAsx
07-07-2005, 11:31 AM
Dewalt = Black and Decker :(

still be fun to play around with drill motors etc :D router motors would be better again :P

opAsx
07-07-2005, 01:42 PM
i was talking to my dad about this idea this morning.

some cordless drills have 14.4V battery packs. and can rev to maybe 20,000 rpm.

some mains powered drills will do in excess of 70,000rpm (****ed if im the buy who would be holding that bloody hand drill ffs) and using a decent power supply (some high mAH 12V packs and an invertor you could theoretically run one) you coud get it running well.

i think the cordless drill motor would have a great low down pull for sure. and being able to run it on 14.4V (same as stock emaxx) wouldnt be too bad. i think my cordless drill uses a 14.4V nicad pack. i will check it out when it gets a little warmer and i can be botherd walking to the shed :)

opAsx
07-07-2005, 01:48 PM
lol, i think my dad was pulling my leg about the rpm's of these things.

my firestorm black and decker 14.4V does 1100rpm

which to say the elast is kind of shit :D

would be interesting to see how other drill motors hold up tho.

Bowling Ball
07-07-2005, 02:06 PM
its not the RPM you need tho, its the Torque!

danhfvcsd
07-07-2005, 03:08 PM
Cogging shouldn't be a problem at all with the right setup :)

It usually only really happens down at very low revs, like - almost from a standstill, so i can only see it being a problem with an underpowered BL setup in u-turns or sharp/slow corners.

You can run the servos/rx etc etc off of a seperate receiver pack to eliminate the problem 80-90% of the time anyways :)

btw - jus for extra info :) If you want torque - look for a lower KV rated motor, and throw more volts into it :)

Bowling Ball
07-07-2005, 03:14 PM
Dead right, alot of the tracks we have here have their fair share of 180 and 270 degree turns, its where the 3 wire brushless motor loose ground.

danhfvcsd
07-07-2005, 03:33 PM
yeah man - just run a lil 'over powered' in the batts department, and run a seperate RX pack - i guarantee you wont have any cogging problems :)

Diff distruction 101

Floating Spiders + A Plastic Diff Cup = Really silly idea.

I have replaced this with another for now but I have a tuffer diff in the works.

The spiders are missing teeth, the cup screws have been chewed out and it made a lovely crunching noise when I did it !lmao

what diffs you going to next BB?

Bowling Ball
18-07-2005, 10:42 PM
A modified stock setup. The new cups are machined billet aluminium with a set spider shaft (none floating - means you can shim the diff equally) the spiders and drive spider shafts are hardened. Will be keen to get it - hopefully in the next few days. Hope to go Brushless this time next month :)

opAsx
18-07-2005, 10:47 PM
nicely done :D

which brushless setup?

one of the novak sets or something better?

Bowling Ball
18-07-2005, 10:50 PM
Not sure just yet. Still reading and looking. They limit racing to 12 cells max so cogging is and issue - even with high voltage matched cells.

danhfvcsd
19-07-2005, 07:58 AM
Maybe even start a thread over in a brushless forum asking about setups? :) There are some hella schooled blokes over in some of em, and would be sure to know something good for ur maxx ;)

Sill Upgrading ...

Proline PowerStroke (wanky wanky) Shocks - reduce bottom out
Home made receiver battery - for driving the steering servo (saves main batts for motors)
Aluminium Skid Plates - the whole truck now sits on a tuff aluminium base.

Bowling Ball
22-08-2005, 11:35 AM
It ran ... for a bit. Then I sheared the front diff in half. The rear diff is fine (alum diff cup) but the front was one of the origonal plastic cups with upgraded gears - All the screws in the crown gear snapped in half.

Its got some grunt - not as much as a lenher or hacker but its enough to kill diffs!

I found out about the front diff the hard way - race 1 and I took off - the Maxx was really loose and I couldn't work it out when racing - Until a fence jumped out and took a bite out of the Maxx.

Further inspection - blown diff, bent Hinge pin, bent alumin bulkhead and a stripped top arm (pulled the pivot ball clean out of the arm)

Now to spend more money to get it read for the next Interclub LOL

UE 8 Spider Diff Upgrade (The Ford 9" of Maxx Diffs!)

Bowling Ball
08-12-2005, 01:06 PM
How does one compare Apples and Oranges?

Total Cost - both the same, around $520AU Each.
Difference in Torque - 9L floggs the HV-Maxx (Mainly due to my truck wieght)

Currently my truck wieghs - 5.284Kgs (measured on a butchers scale - My local supermarket manager loves me)
A stock Maxx is 3.8Kgs. The Novak was unable to power my heavy truck for longer than 4 minutes without thermaling (Thermal cut off).

As to what I would get for racing - the BK Controler and 9L, hands down. However - If I was a rock crawler or a basher The HV-Maxx would be the way to go. (As the truck would be light)
