negotiating the complex course built from mdf, some car parcel shelves/boot panels, a dash matt, and a kinchrome chair creeper. :)

ahaha, nice job :P
i took the emaxx out for a run today and the rc18t with it.
the sister in law slammed the emaxx about like a professional and made the rc18t weep when she begged to run it for a while.
lesson learnt... 15yr old girls are just as crazy with rc cars as the rest of us :(

only now does my front garden have a purpose! r/c bashing!
so tempted to build a propper TXT or Clod rock crawler :) this thing is shite loads of fun

TXT-1 would rock! I wanted that one but couldn't justify the cost at the time. Tested the waters with that thing instead.

definately keen on some serious rock crawling !
http://www.rccrawler.com aint bad
opAsx
19-06-2005, 06:55 PM
now, buying a real crawler would be cool (oh hold on, i will have 2 emaxx in a couple of weeks :P ) but would be so much more impressive building a crawler from scratch or even better yet... convert an old buggy or truck or even more crazy a road car to become a crawler.
looks like my broken b3 may have a purpose after all :)
James
19-06-2005, 07:14 PM
you can turn an e-maxx into a crawler

yah, i have seen a few on one of the clod sites.
after watching the damn thing hammer the terrain today in stock form, i am very impressed with it compared to my 4wd nitros.
it managed a somewhat dubious run up some stairs with a little perserverence :P

James, the crawler looks interesting, would be a bit hard to race mate hehehehehe !lmao
James

Mitch, almost impossible to race, due to the suspension lay out. Mine has a 19t in it, with a 18/90 gearing. at slight throttle it's great for crawling, nail it and it almost wheel stands :)
I want to get myself a lathe motor (like an Integy 55turn) and an 8 or 9t pinion for serious crawling :)
I also need some HPI MT rims and tyres to suit. these wheels are too small... :) may also be making my own custom chassis for it soon, and sit elecs and batt much lower in the chassis for lower CG...
it's gonna be fun.

A lathe motor? Now THATS a hardcore crawling mod...kinda like people putting DeWalt drill motors into an E-Maxx :P

that looks like the one i bought from rcmart.com and my bro grabbed it when it arrived.
i will aks him how hes going with it if he kept it
James

rcmart only do the tamiya chassis plates from what i can see. the penguin chassis kit has loads of stuff with it, it's almost a replacement TLT haha..

last night I locked the front and rear diff's. it was simple, open em, remove one of the spider gears, stick it between the other two spider gears, close diff, away you go. completely reversible mod (no gluing, etc)... fark it's nuts now! obviously doesnt turn quite as good, and the 4WS is essential, but damn, it never gets stuck now haha, it's unstoppable. had it cranking it's wheels up the walls and everything. :)
next mods should be some HPI MT wheels (or some wild willy wheels) and tyres to suit, need bigger! :)
opAsx

i think i have some HPI nitro MT rims sitting at home not on anything not sure which tyres they have.
i will get some pics when i get home tonight of them.
James
21-06-2005, 12:35 PM

hehehe. Well my new Proline Masher 2000 tyres came in, and the traxxas chrome dish wheels. check this baby out now! hardcore!! I took the foams out of the tyres, for even more crazy traction! look mum, flat tyre! hahaha

rockin over some timber! EASY with all diff's locked up. The belt is starting to stretch a bit though, doh! I've heard of people putting "stampede" tranny's in... no belt. hrmmm something to consider with the new chassis I'm thinking. I believe Penguin R/C now offer an add on to their p2300 chassis, which allows easy stampede tranny install...

about $80 in rims and tyres ... not as bad as I thought it would be. Perth Hobby Centre gave me an excellent price, better than some webstore's, etc...
check out this tyre compare, new VS old. I think it looks WILD !

note the tread also on the SIDEWALL of the tyre? helps when your car is climbing on WALLS and stuff. haha damn these tyres are good.

now you need a real crawler... a 1:1 scale :P

Great job James! Now do something about those shocks cos I thought they were shite.... ;)
James
06-07-2005, 11:38 AM
Justo, I wanna do the penguin r/c P2300 chassis and traxxas 'big bore' shocks... however the TLT-1 isnt top priority at the mo. getting my BK2 and mini-T race ready is... :)
I'll try get vid footage of the TLT eventually. it's wild now :)
James

Matto has a "bullhead" which is easily converted to a serious 1/10th crawler... there's bulk chassis kit's avail for them. about the only parts you keep off the original bull head is the fr and rr diff's. hahaha
