After getting into RC just last Christmas when my wife bought me a Duratrax Evader, constantly in the back of my mind was my pride and joy as a nine year old, my old Metro Bullet.
All my mates had Jet Hoppers and I longed to have one too.
Not known for their Christmas erm.... generosity, my parents finally gave in and bought me my first RC.
When I tore the paper off and found something other than a Jet Hopper, I felt totally ripped off. It wasn't until later I discovered this thing had not one but two motors... and all four wheels drove the thing. Hmmm.... but I cant do donuts like the other kids. :(
It was a bit of a love hate relationship with the Metro Bullet but then one day it died. I dont recount that day well... I was pretty distraught!
Anyway, at age 34 wife asks what would you like for Christmas. Ever the optimist, I scrawl through the Gumtree ads day after day waiting for someone to sell a 1/8 e-Truggy (my grown up dream ride)
To my amazement, 25 years on some guy is selling an 'as new in the box' Metro Bullet the same as my old one for $45!!! I couldn't have grabbed the phone quicker and pleaded with him not to sell it.
A few days later, me and Bullet are one again.
Happy little erm... kid
:))))
btw, it's damn near mint!!!
I know many of you will scratch your heads and ask why why why???? but to a kid in the hills who doesnt read magazines, watch much TV and really just hangs out in the bush, this thing was every bit as good to me as a gold tub RC10 or Original Losi buggy... maybe not quite the Hornet which at the time was the only other RC we knew about but hey, lets be realistic thats the 9 year old equivalent of a Bugatti Veyron Supersport.
Smiling all the way!!
Oh and thanks to a very good mate and fellow TA mentor Big Pete, I gots me a 1/8 Truggy!
Happy kid.

Beautiful story..... My first rc was a 0.6 nitro kyosho truck. Over the years in my first period of rc addiction, I remember most foundly was the kyosho optima, and its rival tamiya hotshot.

Good memory.

My first RC was a Metro Scorcher 6 * 6 My old man was didn't want to buy the battery packs (as they cost a bomb) so he rigged up 8 * AA Rechargables on this old power supply thing he had, us kids would have to check every 5 minutes so that when the packs were hot we turned it off.

You used to be able to rig up AA's for anything, my first mobile was an NEC Sports analogue thing on Optus and when it dropped a battery cell, I got another 6 mths out of it subbing in a rechargable AA

I love a story with a happy ending.

My very first RC was an RTR 1/16 scale Porsche with proportional control and throttle, out of the box, outstanding.

After I destroyed that (it was more an indoors toy than I was), I had
Tamiya Fast Attack (Kit)
Tamiya Grasshopper
Kyosho Alta GP on Road
Tamiya Hornet
Then got out of them when I hit Uni.

Since then I have owned (and mostly sold)

2x XTM Mammoths
an Losi LST2
E-Zilla
Subaru Brat (I shoulda kept that one Obz)
Tamiya CR-01
a BNIB FAV I found in Singapore
Losi LCC
and many more.

I am definately considering the FAV Re-Re as an imminent purchase.

My 1st rc was a tamiya TG10, I think that was over 12yrs ago. I got it for Xmas, best gift ever! Use to thrash it up n down the car park near my house. Then couple months later me n dad found out about the Bayswater track so we took it down n they put me with the electric guys that raced there as there was yet a class for 1/10th nitro tourers. We raced the half track layout as the electrics didn't last long in those days. Then the bug got me n we started to get the hop up parts n more people started to rock up with 1/10ths n then the whole nitro tourer scene started to blow up, with serpent, mugen n etc started to bring the faster racer models into the scene. Those were great days but sadly had to stop as was starting high school n had no time (well that's what my parents said). I'm sad that they have banned nitros from that track as it was a great track. Hopefully when get some more spare money will get an electric on roader n rip that track up again
