Its Been a damn long time since I posted.. Nearly 5 years infact! I wonder if anyone actually remembers me lol!
Anyway. I have been looking at getting back into a crawler.
SCX10 seems to be the way to go these days.
Seems to be 2 available from the Usual suspects
The Dingo Kit AX90021
The Trail Ready Honcho ATR AX90022
Now for 100 bucks over the dingo kit the ATR seems like good value. Since I have no radio gear or anything anymore.. Or am I looking at it the wrong way?
Ive been out of the game for a while so Im not sure what the latest and greatest is but I have been reading alot of threads. I know I want an SCX10. I just need to decide which one and what gear to go with it.
Plans would be
Brushed at about 35T
Lipo
Ali where available
I have read through Stewbaru's posts and it seems like as it was 5 years ago.. Having to make 400 purchases from 400 different suppliers to get all the little hopups. Or am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks Guys.

Hey bud, good to see some one else looking at a crawler. You should be able to get most of the Hop ups from RPP or hit up Stewbaru to see what he has available at the moment. He is away at the moment but will be back after new years,

Do any shops in perth actually sell them?
All their websites are next to bloody useless.

Stanbridges used to have them , maybe Sik hobbies or Hobby King.
But your best price would be online. Even with freight It would probably be cheaper.
I bought both my ax10 and scx10 online(ebay stores).
Tower, Omni, Amain, RC4WD and TCS are just a few of the online options.

Forget about local shop here, you propably pay more than $100 over the ebay/online price (including frieght). I think there was a SCX10 Honcho Kit or RTR (can't remeber) in Stanbridges and they were asking more than $500 bucks. The XR10 that they still have is $599, where you can get them from USD139 plus frieght.
Check with Stewbaru when he is back from holiday, he helped me to get my Dingo Kit and is very good price and took about 10 days.

Yeah Im happy to pay the 100 dollar premium and have it now. Cheapest I could Find the RTR was about ~450 delivered from Tower Hobbies or RPP.
So if its only ~100 bucks more locally and I can walk into a shop and pick it up today while I have the next week off I think its not that bad of value.

Hey Fozz , long time no speak .
Welcome back buddy
Ps ... I'm with you , if its within a 30% difference from online just get it local .... Although depends how desperate the " I want it now " factor is as I've paid double in the past ;)

Tower Hobbies + UPS Express Post - discount code will get here early next week and still be a s#it load cheaper.

Toy Central had one and the older dude out the back was pretty helpful However not being up on my models I wasnt to sure what it was.
Appears it was a Trail Ready Dingo (AX90012) he was chasing 600 bucks for it and it was unboxed and had been fiddled with so I wasnt really keen on it.
Looks like ordering online is the go still.

I want to get the rear lockouts. SCX 10 come with straight axle at the back unlike AX10 where there is still Chub and Knuckle. If you want ali one, axial or STRC is good, especially STRC one comes with Stainless steel axle.
With the Ali c hubs do I need 2 or 4. Only 2 Chub and knuckles
Hi steer or normal knuckles? I would go for hi steer if the comp allowed.(will prolly convert to cms)
Should I be ordering anything else ali (link kits? or what are the individual link lengths?) that's depends on which model you end up getting (dingo or Honcho). For dingo both front and back lower length are 91mm. For Honcho, I think front is 96 and back is 108mm.
On top of that I would order the CVD for the front axle (Axial, 3 racing, RC4wd), a spare steering servo (if you are getting RTR, the stock servo wont last very long), Metal horn for the spare servo and maybe a drive shaft (see note below).
Good luck.
Drive shaft, the W8B (comes with Dingo kit and maybe TR) is pretty good, just need to order the metal retaining ring instead of the standard plastic one. If the car you are getting comes with the earlier drive shaft, than I would be getting a MIP or junfac one at one go.

Nice shopping list. Did you get the axial high clearance knuckles?
Fozzy
30-12-2011, 01:06 PM
Yeah I am pretty happy with the order. Although I realised I needed 4 drive shaft rings not 2. There were no high clearance ones available from RPP. So I just grabbed those.
I will get some high clearance ones from another source when I order something else and keep the others as spares.

For the retaining ring, you only need 2 the two that are near the diff which is suspectible to damage. Those near the gearbox, I just leave it as is.

Yes and no. At least he will still have a chance to build it and know how everything goes together. I will say this though when the RTR arrives make sure you check all of the crucial screws for tightness. I heard a lot of bad reports about loose screws when the wraith RTR's came out. Chances are they come out of the same factory in Taiwan.
Fozzy
30-12-2011, 09:30 PM
There is positives and negatives to the kit vs the rtr.
Personally for the extra 90 bucks I thought it was worth it for the radio gear and the few spare parts I will get out of it.
Prolly the possibility to gain abit of it back selling the body and things like that aswell.
End of the day its 90 bucks which is pocket change in any hobby.
