Hi.

Just got my new Losi 1/18th Scale Mini Rock Crawler Pro. Im looking to build it into a scale Rock Crawler, much like the one in the following link.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkmQrPUNci0

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I need a Motor, ESC, Mini Servo, Reciever and Battery. Im not exactly sure what I should be buying and would be interested in second hand gear if possible.

I would put this in the classified section but I'm a newer member and havn't got the 25 posts yet.

Thanks for any help.

I do not know of any guys on this forum with a mini. But if you check out the losi MRC section on RCC you should be able to find all of the information you need. I do know that if you want to compete with this rig. You will need to make a full length chassis for it as the stock chassis will not comply with the rules.

Also search this section for MRC scale builds

This thread seems to have some good ideas and tech in it.

Just thought I would show where Im at with the Losi Mini Crawler.

I have found a few possible bodies for the Crawler with this Hummer body looking the best with a few adjustments. I got it for $1.85 from an Op Shop. I also have a 100 Series Landcruiser body I am sorting out for a more comp truck/crawler look.

Today I'm getting a Losi 1/18th Brushless Motor with Hobbywing Ezrun ESC which I got for cheap off Ebay. Hopfully the ESC will be appropriate. I'll also pick up a 1/18th steering sevro today.

Looking through the CrawlANZ comp regs, this crawler should be able to run in Sportsman class. I have to double check everything though.

It will comply with the rules but it will be lucky to pass the first gate.

For the servo, you do not have to go for a mini servo. I know guys in the U.S. that run hitec 7950's on their mini crawlers. in fact the mini that I have takes a full size servo.

Scale4x4RC has a sub forum devoted to Micro R/C Trux (http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=50).

That forum is for Anything smaller than 1/12 scale. VMGs, Mini Z's etc!
not just micro's.
The pictures are just an example of whats there.

Wieman-" I also have a 100 Series Landcruiser body I am sorting out for a more comp truck/crawler look." Can you tell me where you got that body from? Im would love one in 1/10 scale for a build like my 1:1.

Unfortunately, I spotted the 100 series body on the side of the road while I was walking past to the shops. It was a 1/24th (roughly) scale crappy RC car on the top of a kerb side collection.

I wish you could buy it as a shell but no luck.

I do actually have a 100 series body from my son's old toy. It should be about 1/18 scale, wheel base about 16.5cm.

I've just been reading the Rules and Regs for Comps to make sure my Losi Mini can compete.

The only issue I have found is General Class Reg 1.3.3

"1.3.3 No less than 317mm total length and full original width, and no less than 127mm across the centre (Except Scale Class)"

The total length of my Losi Mini is only 300mm. Thats from the front of the front tyres to the back the rears tyres.

This means my Crawler can't compete right?

I just had a look at the regs and It looks to me that rule refers to body length, not vehicle length.
But I may have miss interpreted it.

1.3 Bodied vehicles:
•1.3.1 Any support chassis allowed (Except Scale Class).
•1.3.2 Super & 2.2 Class bodies must be 76mm minimum height on sides.
•1.3.3 No less than 317mm total length and full original width, and no less than 127mm across the centre (Except Scale Class)
•1.3.4 All bodies should resemble its original form (Jeep bodies look like a Jeep)

Technically your vehicle will not pass spec for any class. But if you want to run it in sportsman to see how it goes then I think we can make an exception. Just remember some of the courses are pretty tough so I would not set your sights too high.

That would be awesome if I could still compete. To be honest, I have every expectation to come come dead last. I just want to see how it all runs and give it a go. Im still thinking about getting a scale crawler in the next few months so joining in with my Losi for one comp will really help me decide what to do.

I'll have a spare truck if you would like to try in scale

I really appreciate the offer. I don't think I am going to compete but could I still have a go behind the wheel? I havn't driven a 1/10 scaler yet. I think I'm just going to come along to see how it all goes before competing.

Just wondering, I remember before you wanting a Losi Mini for a Hummer body you had. Did you ever get it? Originally I was going to put a Hummer body on mine but now I have a 2001 Ford Ranger body on it.

I was just curious so don't need the body. I already have a Hummer body for mine already. Also I'm pretty happy with the Ranger body I have on it now. Will have to post up a pic soon.
