Painted up my first shell and got a little overspray on the outside of the shell.
What's the best way to get it off without harming the plastic????

I'll post some pics of the finished product shortly...

is it the fine mist of spray that hits the outer when youve taken the protective plasic off allready or are we talking severe dog drool over the edge .

jim007
30-06-2005, 12:17 PM
There was no protective plastic on it.
It's a pretty fine mist. No runs or anything like that. Just a few fine dots/ mist.

I see an annoying trend with Losi bodies not coming with overspray film.

oh well , finger nails or metho will do it .

You can try nail polish remover but from what i remembered last time i used it , it would mostly smudge it than wash it off so wait for confirmation off others for the nail polish .

Metho in my opinion is the best solution .

Good luck jim007

brake fluid does the trick.

remotebandit
30-06-2005, 02:52 PM
never thought of break fluid , i know it works a treat on real cars if you need to help your worst enemy out with his paint job .

opAsx
30-06-2005, 03:01 PM
better one is to use brake fluid on the car and then throw a bag of liquid cholrine at it from a distance... makes the paintjob somewhat unrepairable :(

jim007

No I never watched that show. I think it's more a reference to James Bond.

Here's the car. Just a standard mini t shell. Very hard to see the pearl effect in the pic but it goes from green to purple to pink. A little rough but i'm happy for a first attempt.

EDIT BY MATTO: pic removed. see this thread for free image resizing utils.

JEEZ sorry about the size!!!!!

opAsx

wow... for a 1st attempt thats hell nice.

congrats, i found with the colour change lights to try to capture some of the other colours, use a non flash setting and take the pics from around the car with a lightsource from one direction (ie, point a lamp and move about the car taking pics, different angles etc, but keep the light and the car in the same place) this sometimes will give you great contrasts int he colours within the paint.

also, are you sure there is no overspray filmy on that shell?

the windows look mighty foggy.

jim007
01-07-2005, 03:33 PM
They seem foggy in the pic cos I gave them one coat of the clear before i masked them. This shell was a bit of a trial for me. I thought it might give a good effect but I wont bother with that idea again. I'll repost the pics tomorrow night (resized) and try to pick up the purple better. I have learned a lot from my first attempt

here's my car painted up... in real life it doesn't look blue at all!! it goes from a dark green to purple to pink. Is quite effective in good light. the main colour it looks is really purple. :?

looking good jim looking good :D

what are the rear tyres? they look hell spikey.

jim007
12-08-2005, 06:51 PM
Thanks dude... The rear tyres are Proline's I'm pretty sure... Got them from my L.H.S. And they aren't as spikey since I put the mamba in lol...

justo316
12-08-2005, 06:51 PM
Jim, you need to get the front aluminium brace from fullforce (hopefully it fits). If you take a wrong hit, your T is gonna snap where the front plastic bit meets the carbon.

opAsx
12-08-2005, 06:52 PM
ahaha, the mamba will smooth them down pretty fking fast :D

and dont worry about scratching the chassis... they are called "Character Lines" and mines covered in them :D

still it looks good even with all the scratches :D

jim007
12-08-2005, 06:58 PM
Yeah well it's a race car before it's a show pony.

Link for the fullforce bits???

Its the aluminium heavy duty brace bit

12-08-2005, 07:18 PM
jim get some 3M clear film and put on the bottom of the chassis to protect it from scratches?

jim007
12-08-2005, 07:32 PM
Just ordered the brace. Hopefully if fits the 3-Racing chassis... If not, well there's allways e-bay lol.

jim007
14-08-2005, 09:04 AM
Holy CRAP!! I just added up how much i've spent on the mini-t and got arude shock!
I've put over $600 into it so far and still 'need' racing ball diff, alloy wheels, alluminium shocks, carbon shock towers, alloy hubs, titanium tie rods, ally lower and upper steering brace, ally steering assembly and whetever i can't think of right now... Still over $200 to spend. lol
Oh yeah then I want to go LiPo powered... ouch!!!
Still i'm not complaining, the car runs rings around a lot of much more expensive 1/10 and 1/8 cars at the local track. Bang for buck I don't think you can do better than a Mini-T. :-)

Jai
15-08-2005, 08:12 AM
you could always buy a TLT.... they are quick and when little mini-t's egt in your way then you just run them over.... bwwaahhhaaahhaaaaaaaaaaa

but seriously the car looks sik... hey the other shell is that the tamiya pearl flip paint?

opAsx
15-08-2005, 09:00 AM
mini-t's are awesome value with a high fun factor.

having had both a mini t and a rc18t the mini-t is by far the better purchase of the two for me and what i want out of a 1/18th scale

4wd is so boring and predictable. tail out sliding and battling is what its all about.

the mini-t is worth the cost Jim and you wont regret it :D

BALISTC
15-08-2005, 10:49 AM
You've only put $600 into it? Lucky boy...mine is way more than that, including all the battery packs, etc. :( :( :( :(

My Mini-T has that chassis, and I love it :D

jim007
17-08-2005, 09:00 PM
Yeah Balistic I know a lot more money can be spent on them especially on battery packs. My LHS has the LiPos for about $90 I think! Then you need at least 3 of the buggers.
I'm going to just put in carbon shock towers, titanium tie rods, ally lower and upper steering brace and a decent diff for now and then just replace anything that breaks with carbon or ally.
As far as LiPos... I'll leave them until I get better at controlling the Min-T with the power it already has!!!

jim007
17-08-2005, 09:04 PM
Oh and the other shell was a Tamiya purple pearl with blue behind it. The owner of my LHS used the same pearl only with black behind it and they came out quite different. I've since cracked and scratched the crap out of that shell so it's time to get the new one dirty. Already planning the next shell as I find it really fun to paint them.
