I took the Alpha for a drive today, just out in the cul-de-sac. I've mentioned before that this car is not as fast as my Thunder Tiger.

Well, i've always been too scared to lean the fuel mixture because not much smoke was evident at full throttle. I thought it was already at it's limit (which wasn't bad.

Anyway, the car was going through fuel like crazy and I noticed fuel splattering onto my shoes. While looking for the fuel leak I saw that fuel wad dripping out of the exhaust.

It was running WAY TOO rich. Never will I trust someone elses setting again. I turned the mixture screw in one WHOLE turn and this is what happened....

The car now had so much torque it ripped the (aging) tyres apart.

It has better acceleration than the Thunder Tiger but a lower top speed.

This is probably consistant with it being a .15 over the TT's .12.

More torque but lower rev limit

It might be time to experiment with some gearing to raise that top speed a little.

Yeah i know. I think I was running it so rich that the exhaust wasn't smoking much and letting heaps of unburnt fuel through.

Now there is heaps of smoke when accererating. I probably even has more left in it.

The "Spit" test showed that the engine was barely hot enough to evaporate my spit so it was running cool enough.

Best to leave it like that for the hotter months

That is AWESOME!!

My TG10R with O.S. CV-RX used to do that when I leaned it right out, its great fun ;)

Wow, if the stock kyosho engine can do that, I must be running my 15 CV-RX pretty rich.

Yeah, try it out. Mine mixture screw is now out 6 half turns

does that equate to 3 full turns??

yeah, it's stupid terminology but that is just the way it's described in the manuals etc.

Probably because no-one ever tunes their motors in full turns.

Pro's get it down to 'clicks' (the mixture screw has about 15 clicks per turn)

I tune mine in turns :P
