If you've been reading my threads lately, you will know that I have been slowly working an old Kyosho Sandmaster Stadium Truck

In other threads you can read about clutch problems, tyre glueing, diff rebuilding and other assorted matainance jobs.

Today I went out and brought 16 bearings. 8 for the Sandmaster and 8 for the Alpha 3. I also brought some fuel, fuel line, and a new STEEL 14 tooth clutch bell.

Since rebuilding the diff and using bearing grease I had never been happy with the resistance in the gearbox\diff.
I fully took the gearbox apart, cleaned it out with degreaser/metho and rebuilt it using Castrol Handy Oil. The gearbox now spins freely.

I then replaced the old plastic 13T clutch with a steel 14T replacement. I decided to lower the gearing for off-road/jump action. I also sanded down the clutch shoes on BALISTICS advice.

Old items above.

Then I proceded to replace all 8 wheel bushings with the new ball bearings.

The front busheswere made of red plastic :O

Before the front wheels would stop in 2-3 seconds of spinning them. Now they will spin by themselves if held up to a slight breeze or blown on.

The difference all round is HUGE.

I took my ball races beastie out for a run. Sweet as. It was running good for what it is, don't forget it has a .10 motor B)

It quikly began stalling again, but different to the way it was before. Investigation led to me deciding to replace the fuel line/filter with a larger diameter fuel line without the filter.

Running it again confirmed the stalling was due to fuel shortage.

I now have a fully functional Sandmaster back to it's former glory.

Now all I have to do it ballrace the Alpha 3.

The bearings are sitting here taunting me !alien

Stay tuned for more news and photos soon.

Hey its looking sweet!

i love seeing old and classic RCs rejuvenated to their original specification, old RCs are sometimes the most fun.....simple, but effective!! :D

lol, they also let you do things you wouldn't dare to with your good cars.

yesterday arvo I set up a jump in the backyard, the Sandmaster's remaining spotlight is now bent from some upside-down action :p
